THINK BIGThen think XLFamilies grow. Children grow. The amount of stuff we needseems to grow non-stop, so that even simple journeys becomeepic endeavours. And when big isn’t big enough, you need XL.The Altea XL really is XL. It’s tall, with masses of headroom anda higher, more commanding driving position. It’s long. 18.76 cmlonger than the standard Altea to be precise. Which translates into anextra 123 litres of space, and a total boot capacity of 532 litres. Whichis, well, huge. In fact with its high roof line, it has more front head roomthan any car in its class. Although you wouldn’t think it from the outside.With its swooping sporty lines, the look is unmistakably SEAT,as is the handling. It’s well balanced and assured, which makesthe Altea XL a genuine pleasure to drive. Now every school run,shopping trip or family visit is another chance to get behind thewheel. Being the family chauffeur has never been so much fun.

A PLACE FOREVERYTHINGSerious storage capacityFor those who like to keep their things neat and tidy, Altea is one of the best in itsclass. It has more than 30 different storage compartments. Overhead, under seatsand inside armrests, to name a few. And these aren’t just nooks and crannies; we’vecarefully designed each one. For example the front door compartments aredesigned to hold a 1.5 litre bottle.But the main event has to be the cavernous boot. 409 litres in the Altea, and 532 litresin the Altea XL. And it doesn’t stop there. You can slide and fold each of the threeback seats to create even more space to suit your needs.And while you contemplate just how much you could fit in an Altea, remember to considerdigital storage too. The smart, streamlined interior houses the optional SEAT MediaSystem 2.2 with touch screen, DAB radio (stores your favourite stations), Navigator (storesyour route information), plus Bluetooth ® and an SD card slot (for expanded storage).

GREAT POWERAnd with it, great responsibilityOur newest petrol engine is the 1.2 TSI which,thanks to the latest direct injection andturbocharged technology, produces quite animpressive 105PS from its seemingly modestsize. More impressive still considering its lowfuel consumption and emission levels.There’s also a lengthy choice of diesels.The 1.6 TDI CR 105PS engine is available witha 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) which canchange gear in a fraction of a second. Featuring aDiesel Particulate Filter (DPF) as standard, itbenefits from Common Rail engineering, whichmakes things quieter, smoother and moreefficient. DSG-auto transmission is also availablewith the 2.0 TDI CR 140PS engine but gainssteering wheel mounted shift paddles forfingertip control.On the greener side, there is our cleanest engine:the 1.6 TDI CR Ecomotive 105PS engine withstandard DPF and emissions of only 119 g/km.It’s technology like this that helps us all do ourbit for the environment.

START/STOP SYSTEM.This system allows you to save fuel and cut down on CO2 emissions.OFFOFFONONWhen the car is stopped, the gear lever setto neutral and clutch pedal is released, theStart/Stop System switches the engine off.Once the clutch is engaged again theengine starts automatically.An Energy Recovery System works by varying the amount of power absorbed by the alternator. During braking,power which would otherwise be wasted is drawn into the electrical systems and battery. Under acceleration thealternator draws less energy, so more can be sent to driving the wheels. This system helps you reduce overall fuelconsumption, and consequently the CO2 emission level.

HEROESOF THE ROADLet’s hear it for safety features!AFS. ABS. TCS. ESC. EBA. No longer should these amazing, lifeenhancingtechnologies be known only by anonymous acronyms.It’s time they got the recognition they deserve.After all, it’s thanks to them – along with the standard six airbagsand ISOFIX fittings for child safety seats – that the Altea earnedthe maximum five-star Euro NCAP* safety rating. So say hello toAFS, the Adaptive Front-lighting System, bi-xenon headlights thatincrease cornering visibility by swivelling to follow the directionof the steering wheel. Clever stuff.
