Fiber OpticMIL-PRF-28876 QPLConnector Performance SpecificationsTestOpticalperformancePerformance SpecificationsThe optical performance requirements of 3.11.1through 3.11.5 shall be used to monitor effects of the inspection requirementsspecified in 3.12 and 3.13 as required by 4.4 and 4.5.3.Insertion lossThe initial insertion loss and the insertion lossverified at any time during testing for a mated pair of connectors shall benot greater than the values specified in table I for each of the matedmeasurements. The insertion loss shall be measured for 10 mates and dematesexcept for shell size 23 which shall be measured for 5 mates and demates (see4.6.3.1).DiscontinuitiesWhen measured in accordance with 4.6.3.2, nodiscontinuity shall occur. For multimode termini, a discontinuity isconsidered to be a reduction of optical transmittance of 0.5 dB or more for aduration of 50 microseconds or more. For single mode termini, a discontinuityis considered to be a reduction of optical transmittance of 0.5 dB or more fora duration of 50 microseconds or more (during vibration) or 100 millisecondsor more (during shock).CrosstalkWhen connectors with 3 or more channels are tested inaccordance with 4.6.3.3, the signal power levels, or sum of levels of thepassive channel or channels, shall be below the signal level of the activechannel by at least 60 dB.Change in opticaltransmittanceWhen tested in accordance with4.6.3.4, the change in optical transmittance shall be less than 0.5 dB.Return loss. When measured in accordance with 4.6.3.5, the returnloss of a standard polish multimode or single mode optical terminus shall benot less than 30 dB. The return loss of an enhanced polish single modeoptical terminus shall be not less than 40 dB.Return lossWhen measured in accordance with 4.6.3.5, the returnloss of a standard polish multimode or single mode optical terminus shall benot less than 30 dB. The return loss of an enhanced polish single modeoptical terminus shall be not less than 40 dB.TemperaturerangesThe connectors shall meet all requirementsspecified (see 3.1), during the specified operating environments and after thespecified storage environments. The operating temperature range and storagetemperature range shall be as shown in table IV, as specified (see 3.1).©2011 Glenair, Inc. Other Glenair High-ReliabilityFiber Optic Interconnect TechnologiesThe Glenair MIL-DTL-38999 Series III Type Fiber OpticConnector SystemGlenair’s unique alignment techniques maximize opticalperformance and provide reliable, repeatable interconnectionof optical fibers. Ferrule design—critical to performance—hastraditionally relied upon a machined stainless steel terminusincorporating a precision micro drilled hole. Glenair’s uniqueprecision ceramic ferrules, with concentricity and diametrictolerances controlled within one micron (.00004 of an inch),meet the needs of high bandwidth and low allowable insertionloss applications. In fact, Glenair’s ferrules are approximately10 times more accurate than alternative designs, and havereduced insertion loss values from 1.5dB to less than .5dB(typical loss for Glenair termini is .3 dB). The Glenair MIL-DTL-38999connectors are designed to accommodate electrical contacts with fiberoptic termini in hybrid systems.Glenair GFOCAhermaphroditic fiber opticconnection system is optimized for rapiddeployment in rugged field applications.Glenair MIL-DTL-38999 Series III Type fiber opticconnectors and MIL-PRF-29504 qualified termini foruse in Mil-Aero applications.Glenair GFOCA Hermaphroditic Fiber OpticConnection SystemMost commonly used by the army for long-run battlefieldcommunications, the GFOCA Connection System is also well suitedto pierside naval communications, down-hole drilling and otherharsh environment applications. The hermaphroditic system useslow insertion loss butt-joint termini and a ruggedized couplingmechanism for reliable, repeatable mating. The genderless matingsystem is rated to 2000 cycles, depending on fiber media selection.GFOCA meets the requirements of MIL-PRF-83526/16 and /17 (draft) andis intermateable with other manufacturers’ fiber optic connector systems. The Glenair High Density (GHD) Fiber Optic Connector SystemThe Glenair High Density Fiber Optic Connector System isdesigned for applications that require reduced size and weightas well as outstanding optical and environmental performance. The System accommodates a broad range of singlemode andmultimode fiber media, and offers insertion loss values less than.5dB (typical loss for Glenair termini is .3 dB). Dense cavity spacingis achieved with an innovative size #18 genderless Front Releaseterminus design that provides nearly double the density of standardM28876 and D38999 fiber optic connector products. The GHD systemis also available with APC Angle Polish to reduce backreflection.Glenair High Density (GHD) F/O connection system, available in multiple materialsand platings, for use in both military and ruggedized commercial applications.

Series 80 Mighty Mouse Fiber Optic ConnectorsReduce size and weight of interconnection packaging with new Series80 Mighty Mouse Fiber Optic connectors. Specially designed size #16 fiberoptic termini can be used in any standard Mighty Mouse connector for 9/125singlemode or 50/125 and 62.5/125 multimode fiber. Thesesnap-in, rear-release termini have low insertion loss andare intended for high-reliability applications. Precisionceramic ferrules and sleeves ensure accurate fiberalignment and insertion loss less than .5 dB (typicalloss is .3 dB). As mentioned, Series 80 connectors offersubstantial reductions in size and weight comparedto our D38999 type fiber optic connectors. Layoutsrange from 1 to 22 channels. Fiber optic termini can becombined with electrical contacts in Series 80 Mighty Mouseconnectors.Series 801 receptacle with sockettermini and plug with pin terminiGlenair Size 16 Front Release Fiber OpticConnection SystemGlenair designed the 181-011 and 181-012 series rear-insertion,front-release fiber optic termini with retention and environmentalsealing components directly on the termini. Termini snap into acavity within the connector, and there’s no upper limit on numberof fiber cavities. In the unlikely event you break a retention clip ordamage an O-ring, both component elements can be replaced withoutdiscarding the entire termini or connector. The termini use precisionceramic ferrules and alignment sleeves. They accommodate all popularfiber sizes from 9/125 micron (ceramic ferrules) singlemode to 1,000micron (stainless steel ferrules) multimode. Glenair has extensive inhouseexpertise and capacity to machine custom connector shells (inall standard materials and finishes including aluminum alloy, stainlesssteel and titanium) to the precise tolerances required in fiber opticconnection systems. The size 16 custom termini allows us to do sowithout costly tooling and engineering charges. Finished customconnector systems perform at insertion-loss levels less than.5 dB(typical loss is .3 dB) equivalent to other high-performance tacticalfiber optic systems such as MIL-DTL-38999 and MIL-PRF-28876.Glenair's size 16 front release fiber optic terminusfacilitates easy integration of optical media intovirtually any connector package.
