Island Hopping Indonesia : Group TourA 200 metre boardwalk made of ironwood was constructed by the provincialgovernment in the 1970's to bypass the seasonal swamps that can isolate the highground at Camp Leakey from the river. Used by orang-utan as well as people, theboardwalk may be the first place you will meet one of Camp Leakey's "bicultural"great ape residents. These orang-utan are the last of the ex-captive orang-utanreleased into the nearby forest during the 1970's and early 1980's. Now, orangutanrehabilitation is conducted in other areas of the park, but the Camp Leakeyresidents, mostly females and their offspring, spend their time both in the forestand in Camp. They provide visitors a chance to view free-ranging orang-utan closeup. If you wish to donate to or join the Orang-utan Foundation or just learn moreabout their work please visit www.orangutan.org.Proboscis monkey in Tanjung Puting, KalimantanThursday11 October, 2012Rimba Lodge, TanjungPutingPondok Tanggui and Camp Leakey orang-utan postsgroup excursion with lunch on boardYou will wake early this morning and enjoy breakfast at the lodge before boardingyour boat.
