Zákazy nakládkyV ten istý deň ZSSK CARGO reagovalo vydaním ZAN–u, čím zastavilodovoz a tranzit vozňových zásielok z ČD a PKP na Slovensko. Výnimkousa stali len zásielky smerujúce tranzitom cez Slovensko do Rakúskaa Maďarska. Rudolf KUBIŠStrong repeat floods, which we have been facing almost every year, complicated work of railwaymen also this year in May and earlyJune. Flooding of rail or station tracks, sliding slopes and trees fallenon the track restricted or completely stopped also freight trains inseveral ŽSR track sections. This year´s May and in particular Junebrought such damage to railway tracks as even eyewitnesses do notremember. It started on 14.May in the afternoon, when a sudden landslidecompletely stopped the operation of passenger and freight trainsbetween turn-outs Slivník and Čelovce. Traffic had to be divertedthrough Michaľany. Operation of freight trains on the original route, but only up to speed 20 km/h, resumed on 25.May.Danger of landslides, flooding of tracks, station tracks and switchesrestricted the operation or stopped the traffic also between Plešivecand Hucín, Rimavská Sobota and Jesenské, in the railway stationTrebišov and on the rail track between Hontianske Tesáre and Šahy.Stop at the borderOn 18.May from half past four in the morning, the traffic wasinterrupted also in the border section Čadca - Mosty u Jablunkova.Freight trains from Slovakia to the Czech Republic had to be thereforeput aside already in Teplička nad Váhom, Vrútky or in Spišská NováVes.Bad weather also caused difficulties in the neighbouring railwayadministrations. Hungarian Railways were hit the most. From17.May, the traffic was completely stopped via Slovenské NovéMesto - Sátoraljaújhely and bans on loading of the consignmentsto be transported via this border-crossing station (BCS), but alsovia BCS Fiľakovo – Somoskőújfalu, were strictly applied. Continuingbad weather conditions were also a reason to completely stop allconsignments of goods to be transported to Hungary from the CzechRepublic, Slovakia and Austria.Second wave of floodsAnother wave of intense rainfall started as early as the night of the 1stto the 2nd of June and it caused a huge number of interruptions in railtraffic.
Ban on Loading, which stopped the import and transit of wagonconsignments from ČD (the Czech Railways) and PKP to Slovakia. The only exceptions were the consignments transiting Slovakia toAustria and Hungary. No wonder that customers of ZSSK CARGOwere frequently inquiring about the movement of consignments tobe exported and about the assumed time of their delivery to theconsignee. This was also relevant to slowdown in transport of goodsvia border crossing station Čierna nad Tisou – Chop, where, due tounusable track sections in Slovakia, on the basis of Ban on Loading, there was a restriction imposed on import and delivery via Čiernanad Tisou, later extended also to import, export and transit in bothdirections for standard and broad-gauge tracks. In mid-June, the traffic was still stopped in several track sections andfreight trains did not operate between Zlaté Moravce and Lužianky,Čaňa and Hidasnémeti, Kysak and Drienovská Nová Ves, Plaveč andMuszyna, Plaveč and state border with Poland and in other sections.Instability of rail tracks, due to heavy rain in the broad-gauge trackof section Slančík - Slivník caused a complete traffic interruption on1.June. The entire railway station Fiľakovo was flooded and all trainsfrom east to west had to be diverted through Fiľakovo junction andall traffic via BCS Fiľakovo - Somoskőújfalu was stopped until 6.June.High water levels caused damage to eight driving railway vehiclesfrom the Centre of train crew in Fiľakovo. Slope wash and landslidesinterrupted traffic between stations Bardejov - Raslavice and SpišskáBelá - Podolínec. Floods caused a lot of problems on rail tracksMargecany – Červená Skala, Gelnica - Prakovce, Spišské Vlachy –Spišské Podhradie. The western part of Slovakia was struck as well. On Wednesday 2.June,the landslide stopped traffic on the rail track between Zlaté Moravceand Lužianky. The traffic was interrupted between Šahy and IpeľskýSokolec from the 4th to 7th of June.Restrictions on the Main RouteThe worst thing was that the floods caused damage to the main railroute Košice - Žilina. Track washed out in the section Kysak - Košiceand subsequent damage to trolley wires caused the closure of onemain track near the railway station Kostoľany nad Hornádom on3.June. A number of tracks in the section Kysak – Malá Lodina wereflooded as well. Landslide onto the tracks No. 1 and No. 3 causeddamage to trolley wires in Malá Lodina. In Poland, washed track caused interruption of operation in thesection Plaveč, state border - Poland on 4.June. For this reason, therewas complete stoppage of traffic via BCS Muszyna – Plaveč and a banon loading of 5.June stopped transportations of consignments viathis border crossing station in both directions. The landslide on therail track between Kysak and Drienovská Nová Ves contributed tothis situation. After the obstacle was removed, only passenger railtraffic could resume. The opening of border crossing station Lupków– Medzilaborce on 14.June helped remove a number of wagons in ourcountry as well as in Poland.Ban on LoadingOn the same day, company ZSSK CARGO responded by issuing theConsequences of Flooding are AppallingStoppage or restrictions of rail traffic in early June in several tracksections due to flooding caused a decrease in volume of ZSSK CARGOtransportations by approximately 400,000 tonnes in the same month. The most affected were the transit transportations from the EasternSlovak Transhipment Yards, import and export for U. S. Steel and otherflows of goods transported via affected areas. Without a doubt, ZSSKCARGO lost 150 thousand tonnes of goods, which were transportedusing railways in neighbouring countries or road.As a result of flooding in some border crossing stations, or flooding oftheir respective tracks, the traffic had to be diverted and that insteadof Plaveč, stations Medzilaborce, Skalité and Čadca were used andinstead of Slovenské Nové Mesto and Čaňa, stations Lenartovce,Fiľakovo and Štúrovo were used. Only in June, there was an increase inadditional operating costs of 1.045 million Euros.Pavel ZÁVACKÝ, Rudolf KUBIŠRieka Hornád takto podmyla podperu železničného mosta medzi SpišskýmiVlachmi a Spišským Podhradím.
