Volumes of transportations carried out by ZSSK CARGO forthe first eight months of 2010Železničná spoločnosť Cargo Slovakia, a. s., (ZSSK CARGO) transportednearly 25.6 million tonnes of goods for the first eight months of 2010.This transportation volume represents an inter-annual increase of morethan 4.4 million tonnes (+20.8%) and in comparison with the plan anincrease of nearly 1.3 million tonnes (+5.3%).Inter-annual growth in volume of transportations in percentage, withregard to low volumes of transportation in 2009 due to the impactof economic crisis, is a two-digit number (10 to 36%) for the periodJanuary - June 2010. In July and August, an inter-annual increase was“only” at 9%. Slowdown of growth in volume of transportations in tonneswas caused in these specific two months by floods in Slovakia and insurrounding countries, but also particularly by significant increase iniron ore prices, resulting in a sharp decrease in demand of metallurgicalcompanies for this commodity. A similar trend could be observedeven in the first half of September. In its second half as well as in thefourth quarter we are expecting further growth in total demand fortransportations, especially iron ore and other commodities directly orindirectly related to the needs of metallurgical industry. In terms of individual commodities, company ZSSK CARGO reached anincrease in volume of transportations in almost all commodities exceptfor unspecified goods, foodstuffs and oil products. The most significantincrease in the volume of transportations in tonnes was indicated intransportations related to metallurgy (iron ore, metals and partiallybuilding materials), also in transportation of wood and in intermodaltransport (it was partially influenced by the implementation of electronictolling system in Slovakia) as well as chemical products. Significantdecrease in transportations of oil products was caused by the fact thatpart of these transportations started to be carried out by our railwaycompetition.Transportations of iron ore made more than 40-percent in an increase intransported volumes for the first eight months of this year. In June, thisgrowth slowed down and in the following two months the transportationof iron ore reached only a level of the crisis year 2009. In the upcomingmonths (September to December 2010) in transportations of iron ore,we are expecting a similar trend as the one in the second quarter of thisyear.Miroslav ĽUPTÁKMarketing Section
