How Does Advanced Access Work? • Patients are encouraged to schedule appointments on the day they want to be seen, or within 24-48 hours • After each visit, patients given a reminder card for follow up, and asked to call on or around the day the provider wants them back • Patients recalled if they don’t do so: particularly important in lab cases • Appointments rarely scheduled out further than 1-2 weeks
The New System • Advanced Access - the system formerly known as Open Access • Doing today’s work today • Patients offered an appointment with their own PCP on or near the day that they call • We got rid off… – No Show rate of 40% - Reduced to 13%! – Double booking – Long waits for visits, especially preventive care – Low patient and provider satisfaction – Defined our “importance” based on length of our backlog
