The handbook is important to<strong>the</strong> day‐to‐day operation in <strong>the</strong> schools to ensure compliance with state and federalregulations as well as district procedures. Examples might include a reference to IEPrequirements, evaluation timelines, and eligibility criteria for special education orprocedures for requesting additional support for a student with a disability.An up‐to‐date Special Education Procedural Handbook can be <strong>of</strong> benefit to administrators,teachers, and parents regarding <strong>the</strong> delivery <strong>of</strong> special education services in <strong>the</strong> leastrestrictive environment. The handbook could also ensure consistency <strong>of</strong> special educationprotocol and procedures throughout <strong>the</strong> district and within <strong>the</strong> schools.Considerations for Issue 4‐13:• Update and maintain a Special Education Procedural Handbook.• Provide ongoing, school‐based training for administration and staff regardingspecial education compliance and procedures in <strong>the</strong> schools.• Hold schools accountable for adhering to <strong>the</strong> compliance and proceduralguidelines as outlined in <strong>the</strong> Special Education Procedural Handbook.MGT <strong>of</strong> America, Inc.
