215<strong>Uncorrected</strong>/ <strong>Not</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>publication</strong>- <strong>08.12.2009</strong>meeting to provide Rs.25,000 crores and to introduce a new scheme,namely, the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, where flexibility has beenprovided to the State Governments, and the State Governments, as pertheir requirements, can take up schemes in their respective States whichwill be useful to enhance agricultural production, particularly, foodgrainsand other items, and productivity. We are implementing that Scheme <strong>for</strong>the last two or three years.Another major decision was taken to improve the National FoodSecurity Mission. An amount of Rs.5,000 crores has been provided. Itwas planned to enhance the wheat and pulses production by 20 milliontonnes by 2011. The implementation of the Scheme is also doing quitewell and I must say that most of the States are cooperating extremelywell, and that is the reason why both the decisions are definitely goingto show some results from some time now. So, one way our approachis to improve production and productivity, and make foodgrainsavailable.Another area where we have to take a lot of interest is the PublicDistribution System or to make foodgrains available in the market. Inthe Public Distribution System, which we have accepted in this country<strong>for</strong> years together, there was a change in the approach when the NDAGovernment took the responsibility to run the Government. The changewas a slightly different. The change was to give more weightage to thetargeted sections of the society which are really the poorest of the poor.A decision was taken that 35 kilograms of wheat and rice should beprovided to all the BPL families throughout India.
