Nobody wants joblessand inflated growth. Nobody wants growth where prices are beyond thereach of common man. That would be a complete anomaly in ourdemocracy; that would make a travesty of our democracy. Nobodysupports the issue of a GDP growth where prices are very high. And itis not that as if this Government is advocating a GDP growth whereprices of essential commodities are very high, particularly of food items,and where food inflation is very high. We have to take all steps to bringthat food inflation down.(Contd. By VKK/2S)-YSR/VKK-DS/2s/3.30SHRIMATI JAYANTHI NATARAJAN (CONTD.): However, Sir, growth isnot a dirty word. We need growth. We need GDP growth. The fact ofthe matter is that we should be proud that despite a severing globaleconomic crisis over the last several years, our economy has given veryencouraging signals of recovery of growth from 6.7 per cent and is nowprojected to grow by 7.9 per cent. The infrastructure sector has goneup. Cement, steel, coal, etc. have all gone up. Electricity generation,according to official figures, has gone up by six per cent andinfrastructure doubled to 4.3 per cent this year. It is because of thepolicies of this stable Government, the policies initiated by theGovernment that the GDP has grown to this extent. This is somethingthat we should be quietly proud of while never losing sight of the factthat food inflation stares us in the face and food inflation needs to bebrought under control.
