Overview of the Fantom-XTemporary MemoryTemporary AreaThis is the area that holds the data for the patch or performance thatyou’ve selected using the panel buttons. When you play the keyboard or play back a sequence, sound isproduced based on data in the temporary area. When you edit apatch or performance, you do not directly modify the data inmemory; rather, you call up the data into the temporary area, andedit it there.Settings in the temporary area are temporary, and will be lost whenthe power is turned off or when you select another patch/performance. To keep the settings you have modified, you mustwrite them into rewritable memory.Rewritable MemorySystem MemorySystem memory stores system parameter settings that determinehow the Fantom-X functions.User MemoryUser memory is the internal memory area that holds patches, performances, samples, and performance data.Memory CardYou can use a memory card to store patches, performances, samples, and performance data just as you can in User memory.Non-Rewritable MemoryPreset MemoryData in Preset memory cannot be rewritten. However, you can callup settings from preset memory into the temporary area, modifythem and then store the modified data in rewritable memory (exceptGM2).About the Onboard EffectsEffect TypesThe Fantom-X has built-in effect units, and you can independentlyedit each unit’s settings.Multi-EffectsThe multi-effects are multi-purpose effects that completely changethe sound type by changing the sound itself. Contained are 78different effects types; select and use the type that suits your aims. Inaddition to effects types composed of simple effects such asDistortion, Flanger, and other such effects, you can also set up awide variety of other effects, even connecting effects in series or inparallel. Furthermore, while chorus and reverb can be found amongthe multi-effects types, the following chorus and reverb are handledwith a different system. In Performance mode, three types of multieffectcan be used simultaneously; these are referred to as MFX1,MFX2, and MFX3. In Patch mode, the Keyboard part can use MFX1and the Pad part can use MFX2.ChorusChorus adds depth and spaciousness to the sound. You can selectwhether to use this as a chorus effect or a delay effect.ReverbReverb adds the reverberation characteristics of halls orauditoriums. Five different types are offered, so you can select anduse the type that suits your purpose.Mastering EffectThis is a stereo compressor (limiter) that is applied to the finaloutput of the Fantom-X. It has independent high, mid, and lowranges. Independently for the high-frequency, mid-frequency, andlow-frequency regions, this compresses any sounds that exceed thespecified level, making the volume more consistent.Wave Expansion Boards(SRX Series; sold separately)The Fantom-X can be equipped with up to four Wave ExpansionBoards (SRX series; sold separately). Wave Expansion Boardscontain Wave data, as well as patches and rhythm sets that use thisWave data, which can be called directly into the temporary area andplayed.29
