Installing the Wave Expansion BoardUp to four optional Wave Expansion Boards (SRX series; soldseparately) can be installed in the Fantom-X.Wave Expansion Boards store Wave data, patches, and rhythm sets,and by equipping the Fantom-X with these boards, you can greatlyexpand your sound palette.Cautions When Installing anWave Expansion Board901• To avoid the risk of damage to internal components that can becaused by static electricity, please carefully observe thefollowing whenever you handle the board.1• Before you touch the board, always first grasp a metal object(such as a water pipe), so you are sure that any staticelectricity you might have been carrying has beendischarged.2• When handling the board, grasp it only by its edges. Avoidtouching any of the electronic components or connectors.5• Save the bag in which the board was originally shipped, andput the board back into it whenever you need to store ortransport it.• Use a Phillips screwdriver that is suitable for the size of thescrew (a number 2 screwdriver, Fantom-X6/X7 only). If anunsuitable screwdriver is used, the head of the screw may bestripped.• To remove a screw, rotate the screwdriver counter-clockwise.To tighten the screws, rotate the screwdriver clockwise.fig.30-001.eHow to Install a WaveExpansion BoardInstall the Wave Expansion Boards after removing the panel cover.Boards can be installed in the EXP A–EXP D slots. These slotscorrespond with the Wave Expansion Board groups (XP-A–XP-D)when the expansion Wave, patches, and rhythm sets are used.1. Before installing the Wave Expansion Board, turn off thepower of the Fantom-X and all connected devices, anddisconnect all cables, including the Power cable, from theFantom-X.2. From the Fantom-X, remove only the screws shown in thefollowing diagram, and detach the cover. On the Fantom-X6/X7, the cover is located on the bottom panel. On theFantom-X8, it is located on the front panel.* A hex wrench is included with the Fantom-X8. When removingscrews, you must use this hex wrench.fig.30-002.eFantom-X6/X7 : bottomScrews to be removedloosentighten• When installing Wave Expansion Boards, remove only thespecified screws.• Be careful that the screws you remove do not drop into theinterior of the Fantom-X.• Do not leave the bottom cover removed. After installation of theWave Expansion Boards is complete, be sure to replace thecover.• Be careful not to cut your hand on the opening for installing theboard.• Do not touch any of the printed circuit pathways or connectionterminals.911• Do not touch any of the printed circuit pathways or connectionterminals.912• Never use excessive force when installing a circuit board. If itdoesn’t fit properly on the first attempt, remove the board andtry again.913• When circuit board installation is complete, double-check yourwork.fig.30-003.eFantom-X8 : FrontScrews to be removed5mm HexagonalWrenchWhen turning the unit upside-down, get a bunch of newspapersor magazines, and place them under the four corners or at bothends to prevent damage to the buttons and controls. Also, youshould try to orient the unit so no buttons or controls getdamaged.When turning the unit upside-down, handle with care to avoiddropping it, or allowing it to fall or tip over.914• Always turn the unit off and unplug the power cord beforeattempting installation of the circuit board (SRX series).915• Install only the specified circuit board(s) (SRX series).
