Connecting to Your Computer via USB (USB Mode)Cautions Regarding Folders andFilesYou must observe the following points when the Fantom-X isconnected to your computer via USB.• Don’t use your computer to move or delete folders within theFantom-X.• Don’t use your computer to format or optimize the Fantom-X’suser memory or memory card, or execute operations such asScan Disk.• The Fantom-X can only handle filenames consisting of singlebytealphanumeric characters.• Only the following types of files can be transferred between theFantom-X and your computer.Song files (.SVQ) (MRC PRO songs)Standard MIDI FilesAudio files (.WAV/AIFF)Bitmap files (.BMP) (320 x 240 pixels)Text file (.TXT)• To handle these files, use the appropriate method describedbelow.Song files, StandardMIDI FilesAudio filesBMP filesText files• Do not use your USB-connected computer to delete or rewriteany files placed in the ROLAND/SND folder.Exiting Storage ModeWindows Me/2000/XP Users1. In My Computer, right-click the “removable hard disk” iconand execute “Remove.”Macintosh UsersPlace the files in the following folder.ROLAND/SEQ/SNGWhen placing the files from your computer,place them in the following location.TMP/AUDIO_IMPORT folderThen import the audio files.If you want to use your computer to readsamples that were written by the Fantom-X,load the files from the ROLAND/SMPLfolder into your computer.When placing the files from your computer,place them in the following location.TMP/BMP folderWhen placing the files from your computer,place them in the following location.TMP/TEXT folderThen import the text file.1. Drag the Fantom-X drive icon into the trash.Canceling USB CommunicationIf you want to power off the Fantom-X when it is connected to yourcomputer in Storage mode, you must first cancel USBcommunication on your computer as described here.Windows Me/2000/XP Users1. Use the device eject button shown in the taskbar at thelower right of your computer screen to cancel theconnection with the Fantom-X.Macintosh Users1. Make sure that the Fantom-X drive icon is not on your desktop.Examples of Using Storage ModeImporting Audio file (Import Audio)Here’s how to import an audio file (WAV/AIFF).In order to import a file, it must be located in the followingfolder found on your computer.• Windows Me/2000 usersRemovable disk/TMP/AUDIO_IMPORT folder• Macintosh, Windows XP usersFANS USER/TMP/AUDIO_IMPORT folder* “/” indicates a directory level.1. Press [Save/Load].2. Press [F8 (Import Audio)].3. Press [F1 (User)] or [F2 (Card)] to select the importdestinationarea.[F1 (User)]: Import from user memory.[F2 (CARD)]: Import from a memory card.4. Press or , then select the file that you want to import.If you want to select two or more samples, press [F5 (Mark Set)]to add a check mark (✔) to the files that you want to select. Toremove the check mark, press [F4 (Mark Clear)].If you hold down [SHIFT] and press [F5 (Mark Set All)], a checkmark will be added to all files of the selected bank. If you holddown [SHIFT] and press [F4 (Mark Clr All)], check marks willbe removed from all selected files.5. Press [F8 (Import Audio)].A message will ask you for confirmation.* To cancel, press [F7 (Cancel)].6. Press [F8 (Exec)].The file will be imported, and the Sample List screen will appear.* To cancel, press [F7 (Cancel)].The imported file will be added to the sample list as a sample.This sample is temporary, and will be lost when you turn off thepower. If you want to keep it, press [WRITE] to save the data (p.159).220
