Using the PadsMaking Settings for thePads (Pad Setting)Here you can make various settings for playing the pads; e.g., thenote number that each pad will send to the sound generator section,the pad sensitivity, and the aftertouch sensitivity.1. Press [PAD SETTING].fig.16-003.eThe Pad Setting screen will appear.Patch/Rhythm Set TypePad PartPatch/Rhythm Set GroupPatch/Rhythm Set NumberSettings You Can Make for EachPadFirst, select the pad for which you want to make settings. When youstrike a pad, its parameters will appear. Alternatively, you can movethe cursor to “Pad Number” in the screen, and select the pad youwant to edit.• Note (Pad Note)Specifies the note number transmitted by the selected pad.• Velocity (Pad Velocity)Specifies the strength of the sound when you strike the pad.With the “COMMON” setting, the Pad Common Sens (theoverall velocity sensitivity setting for all pads) will be used.With a setting of “1–127,” the sound generator will be playedwith that velocity value.Value: COMMON, 1–127Settings that Apply to All Pads2. Press or to move the cursor to the desiredparameter.3. Turn the VALUE dial or use [INC] [DEC] to make padsettings.Specify the Currently Used SoundGeneratorYou can specify the current sound generator mode (Patch orPerformance) from this screen.• Pad PartSpecifies the Part that will be played by the pad. This parameteris available only in Performance mode.Value: 1–16* If you make this setting, an indication of “PAD” will appear below thePart number in the Performance Layer and Mixer screens.• Patch/Rhythm Set TypeSpecifies whether Patch or Rhythm Set settings will be used forthe pad part.Value: Patch, Rhythm• Patch/Rhythm Set GroupSpecifies the patch or rhythm set group.Value:USER, PR-A–H, GM, CARD, (XP-A–D)• Patch/Rhythm Set NumberSelects the patch or rhythm set number.Quick SetupThis lets you make basic pad settings. For the greatest efficiency, useQuick Setup to choose the settings that are closest to what you havein mind. Then make the necessary changes for each pad.1. In the Pad Setting screen, press [F7 (Quick Setup)].The Quick Setup window will appear.* This won’t work if the Rhythm Pattern function is turned on. In orderto make these settings, you’ll need to press [RHYTHM] to turn off theRhythm Pattern function.2. Move the cursor and make settings.• Template SetValueNote: The sixteen consecutive note numbers starting atthe Base Note will be automatically assigned tothe pads.Rhythm: The note numbers will be arranged in the mostsuitable way for playing a rhythm set.Multi Velo: “Multi Velocity” is a special setting that assignsthe very same note number to each of the sixteenpads—but with differing velocities. This isconvenient if you need precise control of thevelocity while you play.• Base Note (Pad Base Note)Make this setting if you’ve selected Note or Multi Velo as theTemplate Set setting.If you’ve selected Note, this specifies the location where theconsecutive note numbers will begin (i.e., the lowest note).If you’ve specified Multi Velo, this specifies the note numberthat all pads will play.Value: C-1–G9161
