Volume 31 Issue 1Welcome to 2011. This shouldbe a very exciting and rewarding year asour <strong>Club</strong> celebrates its 75 th Anniversary.The planning started early last springamong some of our more resourceful volunteeringmembers, and I for one amlooking forward to a great year.I am very thankful and happy towelcome back my incredible MermateBoard, all whom have given our <strong>Club</strong>their best efforts in the past years. The<strong>Club</strong> is fortunate to have you all contributingyour knowledge, time and enthusiasmto make our days here so fulfilling.The Mermates had a fabulousfinish to 2010. The November bus trip toNew York City to see West Side Storywas sold out early in the year. No oneminds getting stuck in traffic whenthey’re not doing the driving and it is aparty the whole way. She did a remarkablejob of organizing crafts, selectingfood to be served to theguests, convincing Santa tomake a special trip to see thechildren of MRYC, and bringingthe Game Truck to our <strong>Club</strong> forsome junior entertainment. Thanks to allof our well-organized volunteers, thisevent was a joyous occasion for many<strong>Club</strong> members.The MRYC Anniversary Cookbookalso made its debut at the Trim-A-Tree and has been flying off the shelvesfor the past month. This hard covercookbook has many tried and true recipessubmitted by members. The merecost of $15.00 is worth the price alone tohave Don Brennan’s Steak Teriyaki recipeat your fingertips.The Mermate calendar for 2011will start taking shape at our next meeting.As always, I invite all members tocome and join our mission at the <strong>Club</strong>.Bring your new ideas for events andsocials or volunteer to help an hour ortwo at set-up or cleanup of an event. Aswe look forward to warmer days, theMermates traditionally start each seasonwith a ‘spring fling’ at a local restaurantto catch up after these long winters.
