T10/1236-D Revision 20 18 July 2001The ten-byte CDB mode parameter header is defined in table 148.Table 148 — Mode parameter header(10)BitByte7 6 5 4 3 2 1 00 (MSB)MODE DATA LENGTH1 (LSB)2 MEDIUM TYPE3 DEVICE-SPECIFIC PARAMETER4 Reserved LONGLBA5 Reserved6 (MSB)BLOCK DESCRIPTOR LENGTH7 (LSB)When using the MODE SENSE command, the MODE DATA LENGTH field specifies the length in bytes of the followingdata that is available to be transferred. The mode data length does not include the number of bytes in the MODEDATA LENGTH field. When using the MODE SELECT command, this field is reserved.NOTE 44 Targets that support more than 256 bytes of block descriptors and pages may need to implement ten-bytemode commands. The mode data length field in the six-byte CDB header limits the returned data to 256 bytes. The contents of the MEDIUM TYPE field are unique for each device type. Refer to the mode parameters subclause ofthe specific device type command standard (see 3.1.12) for definition of these values. Some device types reservethis field. The DEVICE-SPECIFIC PARAMETER field is unique for each device type. Refer to the mode parameters subclause ofthe specific device type command standard (see 3.1.12) for definition of this field. Some device types reserve all orpart of this field. The Long LBA (LONGLBA) bit of zero indicates the mode parameter block descriptors are eight bytes long and havethe format described in 8.3.4.1 or 8.3.4.2. A LONGLBA bit of one indicates the mode parameter block descriptors aresixteen bytes long and have the format described in 8.3.4.3.The BLOCK DESCRIPTOR LENGTH field specifies the length in bytes of all the block descriptors. It is equal to thenumber of block descriptors times eight if the LONGLBA bit is set to zero or times sixteen if the LONGLBA bit is set toone, and does not include pages or vendor specific parameters, if any, that may follow the last block descriptor. Ablock descriptor length of zero indicates that no block descriptors are included in the mode parameter list. Thiscondition shall not be considered an error.190 dpANS SCSI Primary Commands - 2 (SPC-2)
