If it is not, we may beasking for problems. Problems that willinclude broken marriages, troubledchildren, drug abuse, alcoholism, andmany more social ills. If we find ourselves living lives inpursuit of wealth, fame or physical satisfactions, at the cost ofwhat is due to our God, and then to our families, we are beingfoolish. Family is important. It is important to every singleperson. It is important to an effective, functioning society. It isimportant to any nation that hopes to thrive and survive. Intoday's second reading Paul is drawing us into the family ofGod. "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that weare children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of Godand joint heirs with Christ." WE, who know the risen Christ, and received His Holy Spirit are the children of one God. AsHis children, we are brothers and sisters. We are God's family.Family is important. Father Ed Steiner tells us that "ABBA"was a child's word for its father, but also described a veryimportant adult relationship. Today, many children call theirfathers "Daddy." "Daddy" is a word that is never used for anyother man in the child's life. Jesus, Himself used that specialterm for God the Father, and now we can too.LITURGICAL CALENDARMonday June 4—Weekday2 Pt 1:2-7; Mk 12:1-128:30 am Deceased members of Montini Class of 1975 byBarb TemboriusTuesday June 5—Saint Boniface2 Pt 3:12-15a, 17-18; Mk 12:13-178:30 am Joseph & Jerome Timko by Joan TemboriusWednesday June 6—Weekday2 Tm 1:1-3, 6-12; Mk 12:18-278:30 am Debbie Johnson by Donna Cooper10:00 am St. Pius X Grade School Families(End of School Year — All School Mass)Thursday June 7—Weekday2 Tm 2:8-15; Mk 12:28-348:30 am Josephine Kempter (anniv.) by Mrs. T. This relationship is based on love, and is a model for us. Through the threePersons in one God we can come to a new understanding of love and unity.Thank you for your continued support of our ministries to the people of God.Please prayerfully consider giving a gift to St. Pius X in your Estate Planning or Planned Giving.June 1, 2012OUR STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE — AN INVITATION TO SHARETo be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everythingHe has given us - and He has given us everything.Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted,is never unresponsive,is constantly awakening to new wonderand to praise of the goodness of God.For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.Thomas MertonDear Parishioners and Friends of St. Pius X Parish,Money, no matter how much one has there doesn’t seem to be enough to meet the needs of ourselves, family, church and world. Jesus teaches, “Do not be anxious for your life, what you are to eat or drink…our Heavenly Fatherknows our needs.” (Matthew 6:25). It can be a challenge to trust that our needs will be met and that each of us nomatter our circumstance has something significant to share. Stewardship of treasure involves reflecting on our financialresources and making a decision to give a portion of what we have received for the work of the parish, the diocese andother charities. We are asked to give from our abundance, in the biblical sense to make a sacrificial gift from the “first(Continued on page 7)www.stpiuslombard.orgPage 6

(Continued from page 6)fruits of our labor” (Proverbs 3:9) rather than from what is left over after our needs our met. Such a gift is an act of faiththat can strengthen our understanding that God provides for all our needs. How much should I give? The church teaches that giving should be planned, proportional to income, sacrificial, and an expression of thanksgiving. We always hear that tithing consists of 10% of our income. Certainly that is theultimate goal and a wonderful goal. Realistically, most of us are trying to give proportionately to our income and ourblessings, and to move up to and beyond 10%. Our initial goal for our parish is for everyone to consider giving at least5% of their income. If you are not able to currently give that amount, then we encourage you to increase your givingeach year until you reach that goal. If you are unsure about how to gauge the amount of your gift, please refer to thechart below. Remember this is a guide and includes gifts for the work of the parish, the diocese and other charities. Some may be able to contribute more, others less, for a variety of circumstances. God instructed His people in the Bookof Exodus: “no one shall appear before me empty-handed.” (Exodus 23:15). Even if you cannot give at any of therecommended levels, every parish family should prayerfully consider sharing a portion of its income.WEEKLY OFFERING2% 3% 4% 5% 10%ANNUAL INCOME$20,000 $8.00 $12.00 $15.00 $19.00 $38.00$30,000 $12.00 $17.00 $23.00 $29.00 $58.00$40,000 $15.00 $23.00 $31.00 $39.00 $77.00$50,000 $19.00 $29.00 $38.00 $48.00 $96.00$60,000 $23.00 $35.00 $46.00 $58.00 $116.00$70,000 $27.00 $40.00 $54.00 $67.00 $135.00$80,000 $31.00 $46.00 $62.00 $77.00 $154.00$90,000 $35.00 $52.00 $69.00 $87.00 $173.00$100,000 $38.00 $58.00 $77.00 $96.00 $192.00$110,000 $42.00 $63.00 $85.00 $106.00 $212.00Thank you for your continued stewardship of time, talent and treasure, which all support our ministries here atSt. Pius X Parish to “restore all things in Christ.”May God bless you and your loved ones! With gratitude and prayer,Father George Zieba, CRJune 3, 2012Page 7

Copyright © J. S.
