Current Trends in Biotechnology and PharmacyVol. 5 (2) 1157-1162 April 2011. ISSN 0973-8916 (Print), 2230-7303 (Online)1159ml of only distilled water was smeared on theleaves. For once a day treatment group, first feedin morning was preferred and in twice a daytreatment group two consecutive feeds werepreferred only to ensure that the whole treatedleaves are consumed by the worms. Rest of thefeedings was given with untreated leaves (eachof 9.5 ± 0.50 g) leaves each time. All groups werefed four times per day up to spinning started bythe worms. Before spinning 10 larvae weresacrificed and their silk glands were excised andweighted. Out of the rest larvae, another 10 larvaewere used to measure mature larval weight, cocoon weight (after 72 hr of cocoon formation)and shell weight (after the insect emerged out).Weighing was performed with the help of anelectronic balance (Afcoset, India, model - ER-200 A) with 0.1 mg resolution.Statistical analysis: All results were expressedas mean ± SD of 10 samples. Statisticalsignificance was evaluated within the groups bytwo way ANOVA analysis followed by Duncan’snew multiple range test. Mean values betweentwo groups were considered as significance at P= 0.05 levels.ResultsThe present study clearly indicated thatgly supplementation with the diets has aremarkable effect on the metabolism of silk wormB. mori. Both 2% and 3% gly supplementationwas found to enhance the growth of the wormhaving highest in 3% gly once treated group andwas lowest in 2% gly once a day group. It wasfurther noticed that growth of the wormsincreases from gly treatment in the order of C
