As in thecase of acquisition and reversal phases, Pb+Mnexposureexhibited greater impairments in workingmemory also.Acetylcholinesterase: Among the different brainregions studied, the specific activity ofsynaptosomal AChE in control rats was recordedhighest in hippocampus, followed by cerebralcortex and cerebellum. Incase of Pb+Mn treatedanimals, a decrease in the activity of AChE wasobserved in all the three brain regions i.e.,hippocampus followed by cerebral cortex andcerebellum.The animals which received calciumtogether with Pb+Mn indicated significantrecovery in AChE activity in all the three brainregions (Fig. 7).Adenosine triphosphatases: The specificactivity of Na + K + ATPase was recorded highestin cerebral cortex (0.282), followed byhippocampus (0.217) and cerebellum (0.146) inthe control rats. Incase of Pb+Mn treated rats, adecrease in the Na + K + ATPase activity wasrecorded in all the brain regions, i.e., cerebralcortex (0.211) followed by hippocampus (0.172)and cerebellum (0s.101). However, calciumsupplementation to Pb+Mn, reversed the inhibitoryeffect of Pb+Mn in all the brain regions; i.e.,cerebral cortex (0.256) followed by hippocampus(0.198) and cerebellum (0.124) (Fig.8).1199activity, i.e., hippocampus (0.768) followed bycerebral cortex (0.754) and cerebellum (0.601)(Fig.9).Fig.7.
