JIŘÍ MÜLLER* 1943, BrnoIVAN MARTIN JIROUS* 1944, HumpolecV roce 1966 vedl na Strojní fakultě ČVUT v Praze studentskou opozici, která požadovala právo navytvoření studentské organizace nezávislé na KSČ. Za své aktivity byl ze školy vyloučen a mohlse na ni vrátit až během Pražského jara, kdy patřil k předním studentským vůdcům v Praze. Odlistopadu 1971 do prosince 1976 byl vězněn za opoziční činnost, po podpisu Charty 77 byl opětpronásledován a roku 1981 trestně stíhán.Umělecký vedoucí skupiny The Plastic People of the Universe, kunsthistorik, básník, signatář Charty77 a vůdčí duch československého undergroundu byl za svou organizátorskou a uměleckou činnostodsouzen pětkrát. Ve vězení strávil osm a půl roku, z toho čtyři v nejpřísnější nápravné skupině.Poprvé šel za mříže roku 1973, naposledy roku 1988. Na svobodu se dostal až díky prezidentskéamnestii po pádu komunismu.In 1966, Jiří Müller led a student opposition group at the Czech Technical University’s Facultyof Mechanical Engineering in Prague, which demanded the right to form a student organisationindependent of the Communist Party. He was expelled from university for his activities and he wasonly able to return to his studies during the “Prague Spring”, when he became a prominent studentleader in Prague. He was jailed for his dissident activity from November 1971 to December 1976.After signing Charter 77, he was once again the victim of persecution and he was prosecuted in 1981.Ivan Martin Jirous is the artistic leader of the group The Plastic People of the Universe as well as anart historian, poet and signatory of Charter 77. This leading spirit of the Czechoslovak undergroundwas convicted fi ve times for his organising activities and artistic endeavours. He spent eight anda half years in jail, four of which were in the harshest correction facilities. He fi rst went behindbars in 1973 and the last time he was sent to jail was in 1988. He was freed thanks to a presidentialamnesty after the fall of communism.86 | 87
