W h a t A Y e a r F o r J u d s o n : 6 C C A C C h a m p i o n s h i p s<strong>CCAC</strong> DynastyClaiming their 4th straight <strong>CCAC</strong> regular season andtournament Championship, the <strong>Judson</strong> men’s soccerteam did something that no other <strong>CCAC</strong> team hasever done. <strong>Judson</strong> claimed the regular season titlewith a 6-1-2 record and a 2-2 overtime tie with IllinoisTech. <strong>Judson</strong> then was awarded the #1 seed in the<strong>CCAC</strong> Tournament and defeated Olivet Nazarene, 2-1, in the semi-finals and then shut out St. Xavier, 1-0,for the championship.4th straight naia region viichampionshipAdding to their legacy of the past four years, <strong>Judson</strong>also won their fourth straight NAIA Region VII Championship.They received a #2 seeding and a firstroundbye by winning the <strong>CCAC</strong> Tournament. <strong>Judson</strong>defeated St. Xavier for a third time in a season with a3-1 win in the semi-final match and then scored threegoals in the second half vs. #1 St. Ambrose for a 4-1win. The win gave <strong>Judson</strong> and automatic berth to theNAIA National Tournament in Kansas City.NAIA National tournament(4th straight appearance)Advancing to their fourth straight NAIA National Tournament,<strong>Judson</strong> was paired with Mid-Continent (KY)in the first round. <strong>Judson</strong> had a 1-0 lead at the halfbut two second half goals by Mid-Continent ended<strong>Judson</strong>’s season at 15-5-3.dominating classThe seniors that led the 2007 team finished theirfour-year career with a combined record of 74-14-6. There were five four-year seniors in Kyle Selph,Steven Moldenhauer, Tim Balatsoukas, and AndrewWeissman and two-year player Mark Howlett. Thefive seniors were also a part of a perfect 2004 seasonwhen <strong>Judson</strong> went 21-0 and finished at 23-1-1.naia all-americans<strong>Judson</strong> had another stellar year in the post-seasonawards as three players were named NAIA All-Americans.Senior’s Mark Howlett and Steven Moldenhaueralong with sophomore Gustavo Oliveira werenamed to the NAIA All-American Honorable Mentionteam. It was the second time for both Moldenhauerand Howlett to receive the awards and the fourthstraight year that <strong>Judson</strong> had a player named all-American.naia all-region vii<strong>For</strong> the second year in a row, Mark Howlett wasnamed to the NAIA Region VII 1st-Team. Also beingnamed to the team were Steven Moldenhauer andGustavo Oliveira.NCCAA National player of theyearSenior Steven Moldenhauer was given a prestigiousaward in the NCCAA National Player of the<strong>Year</strong>. The award goes to a men’s soccer playerthat shows great play on the field, in the classroom,and in the community. Moldenhauer is thesecond <strong>Judson</strong> men’s soccer player to receivethis award.nccaa all-americans<strong>Judson</strong> had two players given NCCAA All-American1st-Team awards in Steven Moldenhauerand Mark Howlett. This was the second timethat Moldenhauer received the award as he wasnamed to the all-American team in 2005.NCCAA All-regionDominating the NCCAA North Central RegionalTeam, <strong>Judson</strong> had four players all-region. SteveBurke was also named the “Coach of the <strong>Year</strong>,”too.Steven Moldenhauer, Gustavo Oliveira, MarkHowlett, and Petar Bajic were named to theteam.NCCAA National rankingFinishing the year with a 15-5-3 record, <strong>Judson</strong>was given a #5 final national ranking in the NC-CAA National Poll. <strong>Judson</strong> was in the top 10 allseason long and at one point was ranked as highas #2 in the nation.naia national rankingEven though <strong>Judson</strong> won 15 games and was inthe NAIA National Tournament, they did not receivea final top 25 national ranking. They finishedas the 27th team receiving votes. <strong>Judson</strong>was in the top 25 for most of the season andstarted out with a pre-season ranking of #8.naia regional ranking<strong>Judson</strong> won the NAIA Region VII Tournament butwas the #2 seed in the final ranking. <strong>Judson</strong> hadbeen ranked #1 for most of the season and fell to#2 when Grand View (Iowa) had a better regionalrecord by one game.S t e v e n M o l d e n h a u e rN C C A A N a t i o n a l P l a y e r o f t h e Y e a rC C A C P l a y e r o f t h e Y e a rN A I A A l l - A m e r i c a n<strong>CCAC</strong> awards<strong>Judson</strong> once again dominated the <strong>CCAC</strong>post-season awards as they had six playersnamed all-<strong>CCAC</strong>. Four of the six playerswere on the All-<strong>CCAC</strong> 1st-Team in StevenMoldenhauer, Mark Howlett, GustavoOliveira, and Neil Thompson. Named tothe All-<strong>CCAC</strong> 2nd-Team were Vitor Bravoand Petar Bajic.<strong>CCAC</strong> player of the yearGaining the <strong>CCAC</strong> Player of the <strong>Year</strong> wassenior Steven Moldenhauer. The defensemenhelped <strong>Judson</strong> with six shutouts on theyear and to their fourth straight regular seasonand tournament championship.<strong>CCAC</strong> players of the weekFive different players were given the <strong>CCAC</strong>Player of the Week award for their playin seven different weeks of the season.Claiming the award twice were LeonardoSilva, Neil Thompson, Mark Howlett, andGustavo Oliveira. Kyle Selph gained theaward in the final week of the season.
