W h a t A Y e a r F o r J u d s o n : 6 C C A C C h a m p i o n s h i p sa year of firstsThe 2007-08 season marked a year of firsts for the<strong>Judson</strong> men’s basketball team. It was the first timefor <strong>Judson</strong> to win the <strong>CCAC</strong> regular season and tournamentchampionships along with advancing to theNAIA Division II Tournament. It was also the first timethat <strong>Judson</strong> has had a <strong>CCAC</strong> “Player of the <strong>Year</strong>.”ccac championshipsWith a 10-2 regular season <strong>CCAC</strong> record, <strong>Judson</strong>won their first-ever <strong>CCAC</strong> championship. It camedown to the final regular season game against TrinityChristian in Palos Heights, Ill., as <strong>Judson</strong> took thechampionship with a 78-69 win. <strong>Judson</strong> had startedoff the conference with a 7-0 record before droppingtwo straight <strong>CCAC</strong> contests. They then regroupedand won their final three <strong>CCAC</strong> games for the championship.The <strong>CCAC</strong> Tournament Championship was just ashard as <strong>Judson</strong> had a bull’s-eye on their back due towinning the regular season. In the semi-final game,<strong>Judson</strong> held off a surging Calumet College team, 92-91, in the Lindner Fitness Center moving onto thechampionship game. <strong>Judson</strong> had to face CardinalStritch, who gave the Eagles one of their two <strong>CCAC</strong>losses, but had home court advantage. In their thirdmeeting of the season, <strong>Judson</strong> cruised to a 97-79 winfor their first-ever <strong>CCAC</strong> Tournament Championship.naia national tournamentBy winning the <strong>CCAC</strong> Tournament Championship,<strong>Judson</strong> received the automatic bid to the NAIA DivisionII National Tournament in Missouri. This was afirst for <strong>Judson</strong> as the last national tournament thatthey went to was the NCCAA in 1983. <strong>Judson</strong> drew#4 Walsh University and fell to the Cavaliers in thefirst round.naia all-americanNamed to the NAIA All-American Third-Team, DewayneRobinson became the fourth <strong>Judson</strong> player tobe named NAIA All-American. His third-team statusis the best, ever, for a <strong>Judson</strong> player.naia champions of characterSenior Justen Boyd claimed the NAIA Champions ofCharacter award for his play both on and off the field.He received the award at the NAIA National Tournamentin Missouri.ccac player of the yearWith such a season, <strong>Judson</strong> claimed a lot of postseasonawards. One of them was the <strong>CCAC</strong> Playerof the <strong>Year</strong> in Dewayne Robinson. This, again, wasa first for the program. Robinson led the <strong>CCAC</strong> inscoring at 21.1 points per game and was named the<strong>CCAC</strong> Player of the Week three times. He wasalso named to the All-<strong>CCAC</strong> First-Team.<strong>CCAC</strong> coach of the yearIn his final year as the head men’s basketballcoach, Jim Cook went out in style by gaining the<strong>CCAC</strong> Coach of the <strong>Year</strong>. He guided <strong>Judson</strong> totheir finest year, ever, with a 10-2 <strong>CCAC</strong> recordand won both the regular season and tournamentchampionships. He also had four players namedAll-<strong>CCAC</strong> and the <strong>CCAC</strong> Player of the <strong>Year</strong>.<strong>CCAC</strong> AwardsFour players were named to the All-<strong>CCAC</strong> teamswith three being first-team. Dewayne Robinson,Ilija Bojanic, and Justen Boyd were all named tothe All-<strong>CCAC</strong> First-Team while Joe Gonnam wasan All-<strong>CCAC</strong> Honorable Mention selection.Three players were awarded <strong>CCAC</strong> Player of theWeek for five different weeks. Robinson claimedthree of the five weeks while Boyd and Bojaniceach received the award, too.nccaa all-americanDewayne Robinson was named to the NCCAAAll-American First-Team for his performance. Heled the NCCAA in scoring for most of the seasonand finished second. He was also named NationalPlayer of the Week, once. In the statisticalcategories, he finished 14th in field goal percentageand 15th in steals per game.nccaa national player of theweekThree players earned the NCCAA National Playerof the Week award for <strong>Judson</strong>. Dewayne Robinson,Ilija Bojanic, and Justen Boyd each pickedup the award for their play.NCCAA AwardsIn the North Central Region, <strong>Judson</strong> had threeplayers earn awards. Dewayne Robinson andIlija Bojanic were named to the first-team whileJusten Boyd was on the honorable mentionteam.in the ccacSeveral <strong>Judson</strong> players were ranked in differentcategories for the <strong>CCAC</strong>. Dewayne Robinsond e w a y n e r o b i n s o nn c c a a A l l - A m e r i c a nN A I A A l l - A m e r i c a nC C A C P l a y e r o f t h e Y e a rA l l - C C A C 1 s t T e a mled the way as he was in seven different categories.Robinson led the <strong>CCAC</strong> in scoring,second in three-point field goal percentage,third in steals, fourth in field goal percentage,fifth in assists, sixth in rebounding, and ninthin free throw percentage.Justen Boyd led the <strong>CCAC</strong> in assists, wassecond in field goal percentage and assist/turnover ratio, 14th in scoring and steals, and15th in free throw percentage.Ilija Bojanic finished fourth in rebounding, sixthin scoring and blocked shots, 11th in steals,13th in free throw percentage and three-pointfield goal percentage, and 14th in assists.Chris Oates was fourth in blocked shots, fifthin three-point field goal percentage, sixth infield goal percentage, ninth in rebounding,and 12th in scoring.Steffan Williams was fifth in free throw percentage,sixth in three-point field goal percentage,11th in assists, and 17th in scoring.Joe Gonnam finished fifth in rebounding andsteals, ninth in blocked shots, 10th in field
