We no longer hear <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>young men grown up with him ; <strong>the</strong> king is nowattended by <strong>the</strong> princes <strong>of</strong> Judah, <strong>of</strong> Ifrael ; <strong>the</strong>feprinces, who five years before " hearkened to <strong>the</strong>word <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord," and declined to " go up and fightagainft <strong>the</strong>ir brethren." <strong>The</strong> kingdom was to be forclychaftifed, " that <strong>the</strong>y might know <strong>the</strong> diflerenccbetwdbn" God's fervice and <strong>the</strong> fervice <strong>of</strong> a foreignking:" But <strong>the</strong> king and <strong>the</strong> princes had repented,and it was not to be deftroyed ; for *» when <strong>the</strong> Lordfaw that <strong>the</strong>y humbled <strong>the</strong>mfelves, <strong>the</strong> v/ord. <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Lord <strong>ca</strong>me to Shemaiah, faying, <strong>The</strong>y iiavc humbled<strong>the</strong>mfelves, <strong>the</strong>refore I will not deftroy <strong>the</strong>m, but Iwill grant <strong>the</strong>m fome deliverance, and my wrath (hallnot be poured out upon Jerufalem by <strong>the</strong> hand <strong>of</strong>Shifhak.
