• The development of the Payload Data Segment (PDS) has been
carried out by ACS (I), with Logica (B), ONERA (F), and IAPG (D)
as sub-contractors.
• The High-Level Processing Facility (i.e. Level 1b to Level 2 data
processing) has been developed by a consortium of 10 institutes
distributed in 7 countries: IAPG (D), AIUB (CH), CNES (F),
FAE/A&S (NL), GFZ (D), ITG (D), Polimi (I), SRON (NL), TUG
• The calibration and Monitoring Facility (CMF) and Reference
Planning Facility (RPF) development has been carried out by
Deimos (E) with ACS (I), SRON (NL) and IAPG (D) as subcontractors.
• The Flight Operation Segment (FOS) has GMV (E) as prime and
Dataspazio (I) as sub-contractor for the development of the
Mission Control System, whereas SciSys (UK) is responsible for
the development of the simulator.
GOCE Mission is very challenging
being the satellite a first in many
ways:
First flying a three axis Gravity
Gradiometer and a Drag Free
Attitude Control System at low orbit
altitude (i.e. 250 Km) with no
mechanical moving parts and using
advanced technologies.
• Gradiometer Structural and Thermal Model (STM) programme
completed with, in particular, qualification of the Carbon-Carbon
technology used for the Gradiometer Structure.
• Satellite Structural Model programme completed.
• Payload Engineering Model (EM) programme (i.e. Gradiometer
and Satellite to Satellite Tracking Instrument) completed.
• Satellite EM integration completed and functional verification in
progress.
• Gradiometer Electronics FMs completed.
• 6 Accelerometer Sensor Heads completed.
• First Gradiometer arm integrated and aligned.
• The development of the various GOCE Ground Segment
elements has reached a mature status (i.e. Acceptance Reviews
successfully held) and we are starting now the Ground Segment
Overall Validation (GSOV).
• The first GSOV tests are running between FOS and PDS, these
will be incremented with the addition of: RPF, HPF, PMF and
CMF.
