ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011Data Format for the Interchange of Biometric and Forensic Information7.7 Type-10 Facial or SMT;Type-11 Facial;and Type-12 SMT image recordsType-10 image records shall contain and be used to exchange facial and otherimage data from scars, marks, and tattoos (SMT) together with textual andforensic information pertinent to the digitized image. The source of the imagedata shall be the image captured from scanning a photograph, a live imagecaptured with a digital camera, or a digitized “freeze-frame” from a video camera. There may be multiple Type-10, Type-11, and Type-12 records in a transaction.Although traditional implementations have used the Type-10 record forexpressing both face and SMT images, newer applications must use the Type-11for faces and the Type-12 for SMTs.7.8 Type-13 Variable-resolution latent image recordType-13 image records shall contain and be used to exchange variableresolutionlatent friction ridge image data (fingerprint, palmprint and/or plantar)together with fixed and user-defined textual information fields pertinent to thedigitized image. In all cases, the minimum scanning resolution (or effectivescanning resolution) and transmission rate for latent images shall be 39.37ppmm plus or minus 0.40 ppmm (1000 ppi plus or minus 10 ppi). The variableresolutionlatent image data contained in the Type-13 record shall beuncompressed or may be the output from a lossless compression algorithm. There is no limit on the number of latent records that may be present in atransaction.7.9 Type-14 Variable-resolution fingerprint image recordType-14 image records shall contain and be used to exchange variableresolutionrolled fingerprint image or flat fingerprint data. Fixed and user-definedtextual information fields pertinent to the digitized image may also be included. The scanning resolution is not specified for this record type. While the Type-14record may be used for the exchange of 19.69 ppmm (500 ppi) images, it isstrongly recommended that the minimum scanning resolution (or effectivescanning resolution) for fingerprint images be 39.37 ppmm plus or minus 0.40ppmm (1000 ppi plus or minus 10 ppi). It should be noted that as the resolutionis increased, more detailed ridge and structure information becomes available inthe image. However, in all cases the scanning resolution used to capture afingerprint image shall be at least as great as the minimum scanning resolution of19.69 ppmm (500 ppi). The variable-resolution fingerprint image data contained in the Type-14 recordmay be in a compressed form. In major case prints, there may be up to 78images: each of the ten fingers may contain a rolled tip image and either oneentire joint image or one full finger rolled image and left, center, and right fullfinger plain impressions.Brad Wing 6/19/10 5:07 PMComment: Combining descriptions together.Brad Wing 6/19/10 5:07 PMComment: Added reference to forensicsBrad Wing 6/19/10 5:07 PMComment: Revised wording in this sentence.Brad Wing 6/19/10 5:07 PMComment: Revised wordingBrad Wing 6/19/10 5:07 PMComment: Change of number to 78 withaccompanying description.18DRAFT 2
