ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011Data Format for the Interchange of Biometric and Forensic Information18 Type-14 variable-resolution fingerprint image recordThe Type-14 record shall contain and be used to exchange fingerprint imagedata from a rolled tenprint, an identification flat, or a major case print (alsoreferred to as a complete friction ridge exemplar). All fingerprint impressionsshall be acquired from a tenprint card, a major case print card, a single ormultiple-finger flat-capture device, contactless fingerprint sensor that outputs 2Dfingerprint images, or a live-scan device. Captured images are intended to betransmitted to agencies that will automatically extract the desired featureinformation from the images for matching purposes. Textual informationregarding the scanning resolution, the image size and other parameters orcomments required to process the image are recorded as tagged fields within therecord.The Type-14 record is also used to exchange identification flats (simultaneousplain impressions captured on a platen). Several Type-14 image records areused to contain the flat fingerprint impressions. Two of the image recordscontain the left and right simultaneous four fingers, and a third contains the twothumbs. Their are also codes for two and three and four finger combinations.Offsets to the locations of image segments containing the individual fingers areincluded with the image records for individual flat prints resulting fromsegmentation of a four-finger slap image. If a four-finger slap image is generatedby stitching individual images together, it must be noted as such using theComment field (14.020).
