ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011Data Format for the Interchange of Biometric and Forensic Information17.4.10 Field 13.014: Search position descriptors / SPDThis shall be present if and only if the finger position code "19" appears in Field13.013. It is used to narrow the search of the latent image in this record againsta database. This field shall consist of two mandatory information items. The first information (probable decimal finger position code / FGP) (0-10)is taken from Table 9. A "0" indicates that all the fingers of a possiblecandidate should be searched. The second information item (Entire joint image - EJI or tip image / SLC) isthe code taken fromTable 67 to indicate the portion of the in the database to search. Latentimages of full-length fingers use codes FV1 through FV4 as defined inTable 67. Figure 31 is an illustration of the Entire Joint Image for a middlefinger with each of the full finger views and constituent parts identified. TheEJI code is used for the case where all four finger images are to beconsidered. For the case where the latent is to be compared to proximal, distal, or medial segments of a finger, this information item will contain theappropriate finger segment character. Multiple portions of the EJI can belisted.Table 67 EJI and tip codesTYPE OF IMAGEEntire Joint ImageRolled TipFull Finger Rolled ImageFull Finger Plain Image – left sideFull Finger Plain Image – centerFull Finger Plain Image – right sideProximal, Distal, or Medial SegmentsIMAGE CODEEJITIPFV1FV2FV3FV4PRX, DST, MEDNOTE: Fields 13.014 and 13.015 are included to make the standard flexibleenough to accommodate many different scenarios and applications. These twofields facilitate searching of latents formatted within Type-13 records againstType-14 records contained in the various databases. The search of a databaseby a latent can be narrowed with the use of additional information such as fingerposition, finger segment, or full finger view. It is unlikely that an entire EJI willever be left at the scene of a crime. But a latent can be searched against the174DRAFT 2
