Note that the determinationslabeled “potential” are included to mark preliminary determinations for work inprogress, and are not final determinations. This field consists of eight informationitems:• The first information item (IDC Reference / EDC) indicates the targetimage for a given determination, and is used in the same way as the IDCsubfield in Field 9.360.• The second information item (Determination / EDE) indicates acomparison conclusion, from Table 44.• The third information item (Work in Progress / WIP) is set to“PRELIMINARY” (default) or “FINAL”. For a determination to be acceptedfor further processing, the status must be set to “FINAL”. The purpose ofthis is to allow saving work in progress, and requiring a double-check toverify that determinations are in fact final. 52Brad Wing 6/23/10 1:09 PMComment: Reorganized for consistency ofpresentation7.52 The Work in progress flag is included so that e.g. someone going to lunch or home for the night, or screening out along list of candidates, can flag cases requiring further evaluation. A classic human factors design error is not allowingpeople to save work in progress, resulting either in losing work or rushing determinations.122DRAFT 2

ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011Data Format for the Interchange of Biometric and Forensic Information• The fourth information item (Examiner last name / ELN) is the surname(last name) of the fingerprint examiner.• The fifth information item (Examiner first name / EFN) is the given name(first name or first and middle names) of the fingerprint examiner.• The sixth information item (Examiner affiliation / EAF) is the employer ororganizational affiliation of the examiner.• The seventh information item (Date and Time / DTG) is the date and timethat the determination was made, in terms of Greenwich Mean Time(GMT) units.• The eighth information item (Comment / CZZ) is optional and may containtext that provides clarifying or qualifying information regarding thecomparison determination.123DRAFT 2
