When everyone
started to dig out of the
snow, Fauquier County was
hit again with several more
inches of snow and blizzardlike
conditions. “I wanted to
cry when I heard news of the
next storm,” Norden said.
Virginia code states
that when schools are closed
for six days or more, the
schools must make up the
first five days, plus one day
of every two days missed
in excess of the first five.
However, the superintendent
may ask the state for a
waiver, to forgive those
missed days, if more than 15
days are missed.
Since 13 days were
missed, the School Board
voted to combine marking
periods 1 and 2 and only issue
a report card after marking
period 2 for this semester.
It was also decided that all
students would receive an
“informal” update as to what
their grade is on or about
March 8th. March 11th is
no longer a conference day
but a regular school day, and
spring break remains intact.
