Senior Class Prepares for First Graduation Around
By Lauren Forlano
Town
Kettle Run’s first
graduation ceremony will
be held on the football field.
The gym will be used as an
inclement-weather alternative.
With graduation being
held during the summer,
comes extreme heat and humidity
but allows more room
to invite more friends and
family.
“I’m happy graduation
is outside. Now, I can invite
my entire family and my
closest friends,” said senior
Ashlin Manley.
“I think it’s a great
idea, as long as it doesn’t
rain,” said senior Dana Strachan.
Seniors will be spending
most of the day preparing,
trying to keep their nerves
down, until the final moment
when the students will be
walking across the stage to
receive their diplomas.
“I’m going to spend
the day getting ready and
spend time with my family
while soaking in the fact
of being finished with high
school,” said senior Keisha
Fullen.
“Party of course!”
said senior Stephanie Hoffman.
Since graduation
means no more school, seniors
are busy making plans.
Preparations are underway for the first graduation on the Kettle Run football
field. Students are excited administration changed its mind and is holding graduation
on the field rather than in the gym.
day June 11th at 6 p.m. “I’m
so happy graduation is on a
Friday; I have a huge majorette’s
completion Saturday
and graduation being on a
Friday just makes things so
much easier,” said Manley
“It was so aggravating
trying to tell my family
that want to come when that
I didn’t know when gradua-
tion was, but now everyone
is happy and so am I,” said
Strachan.
It has also been decided
that the first ever senior
trip will be to Cedar
Point in Ohio. It will be an
8 hour bus ride from Kettle
Run; the bus will leave Kettle
Run on May 21st and come
back May 23rd. The trip is
$200 and 100 seniors need to
sign up in order to make the
trip eligible.
“I’ve always wanted
to go to Cedar Point, and I’m
really excited to go with my
friends,” said Hoffman.
“Cedar Point is going
to be ridiculous; I can’t wait
to go it’s going to be insane,”
said senior Kelsey Sullivan.
Freshman Class Travels to D.C. to See Terra Cotta
Warriors
By Emmaleah Jones
On Wednesday
March 3, a huge portion of
the freshman class traveled
to Washington D.C. to see the
Terra Cotta Warriors. These
warriors were on display in
the National Geographic Museum.
In World History I,
freshmen learn about Ancient
China and all the dynasties
of Classical China. The First
Emperor of China, Qin Shi
Huangdi (pronounced Chin-
Shee-Hwong-Dee), was a
Winter Olympics
At the start of the
year many sports fans were
very excited as winter athletes
geared up and got
ready for some chilly winter
Olympic sports up in Canada.
The 2010 Olympics took
place February 12 through
February 28, in Vancouver,
Canada. The medal count
ended fairly close with the
United States coming in
first with 37 medals, Ger-
of being alone in the afterlife.
So he wouldn’t be alone.
He had thousands of servants
make him thousands
of soldiers (and other figures)
out of clay. These figures
were buried with him in
hopes they would accompany
him to the afterlife.
“He built them so that
when he died, they would
protect him,” freshman Claudia
Ventura explained.
For all their hard work,
the servants were rewarded
in a shocking way.
“All of the members who
helped him build the clay sol-
many coming in second, with
30 medals, and Canada in
third with 26 medals.
Although Canada came
in third overall, they did win
the most gold medals with
14, beating the U.S. by five
gold medals.
Academy Awards
The famous Hollywood
red carpet welcomed
another year of delighted
winners and disappointed
nominees, all trying to win
the Academy Awards.
diers were killed,” freshman
Sydney Marks explained.
After the slaves were finished
making all of these
pieces of art, he made all of
the people who knew about
it kill themselves so it remained
a secret- a mystery
for a long time.
These pits, filled with funerary
art (art for the afterlife),
were discovered in 1974
by local farmers drilling a
well, and they were buried in
210-209 B.C.
In the three pits containing
the Terracotta Army, there
were over 8,000 soldiers, 130
chariots with 520 horses and
The 82 nd annual
Academy Awards ceremony
took place on March 7, 2010.
The awards show
took place at the Kodak Theatre
in Hollywood, California,
hosted by actors Alec
Baldwin and Steve Martin.
The top nominations
of 2009 were Avatar and The
of which are still buried
in the pits
Students had a lot of fun,
and the majority of them
would do it again. “The bus
ride was fun, so, yeah, I would
do it again,” Marks said.
Although Ventura learned
a great deal, she said her favorite
part was “I got out of
school.”
Overall, freshman say the
trip was very fun and interesting.
All students walked
away from the field trip with
a real life visual of what they
were reading about in their
textbooks.
Reform
On Tuesday, March
23, at 4 p. m. Obama signed
an executive order granting
Stupak’s request, making
legislation into law Tuesday
that will overhaul the
nation’s health system.
Republicans scoffed
at Democratic claims that
the political tide would
turn, however when it did,
13 states sued claiming
that the legislation (now
law) was unconstitutional
because it required citizens
to purchase healthcare in
the next four years.
