PutmanThis month is the Bicentennial of thedeath of Tecumseh on October 5, 1813.Shawnee Chief Tecumseh was the leaderof the American Indians fighting alongsidethe British in the War of 1812. He diedin battle at Moravian on the Thames, nearthe current city of Chatham-Kent, OntarioHis resting place is on Walpole Island nearChatham-Kent. The US commander in thebattle was future President William HenryHarrison. Tecumseh was born in March1768 in Oldtown, just north of Xenia,Ohio. In the Shawnee language Tecumsehmeans “Shooting Star” or “Panther AcrossThe Sky”. This name was chosen becauseabout the time of his birth, his fatherPuckshinwa observed a huge meteorstreak across from the north leaving a trailof greenish white flame.Remember, we elect new club officersfor 2014 at the November meeting.

At theEnglewood parade, the Motor Corps had apleasant surprise when Noble Carl Shivelyparaded with us and drove his Dune Buggynow owned by Pete Boyd. Over the lastfew years the illness of Carl’s wife Gloriahas prevented Carl’s participating withthe Motor Corps and we were truly gladto have him once again able to participatewith us in a parade. With the Circuskickoff on September 4th and the parade inSt. Paris, the first week of September wasa great month. After returning from theImperial in Indianapolis, the parade seasonhas once again moved into full swing. As stated last month, the Motor Corpsdecided to “Go Nuts” and authorized afund raiser to sell quality nuts. Sales thusfar are great. After receiving our firstshipment in September we are alreadysold out of some items and have placeda second order. Sales have topped$2,000.00 thus far. Noble Phil Hansen isour best salesman and to date has sold over$600.00 of various types of nut products. For Phil’s efforts I have named him Mr.Motor Corps Big Nut of the Month andplan to give him an award stating such.Anyone interested in purchasing, contactany Motor Corps Noble or Noble PeteBoyd at 233-7469.ANTIOCHGUN CLUBBy Nobel Tom HailThis month we gather at AlphaLodge on the 16th at 7:00 PM. PutmanTBDBITL TooterWe just completed another fun filledGreat Lakes Shrine Convention and madereal progress on revitalizing the GreatLakes Shrine Band Association. It lookslike next year will be in STL.We are about to wrap up another funfilled parade season. It just keeps gettingbetter and better. The popular Ed Sullivan Show did notalways go by that name. When it was firstaired in 1948 until 1955, it was known asToast Of The Town. Who remembers EdSullivan? The Sartorius is the longest muscle inthe human body, running the length of thethigh. It enables us to cross our legs. The phone number to the Gardenof Eden is 281-FRUIT. If you do notunderstand, sound it out.PIPES ANDDRUMSBy EverettI’m sure many of you have noticedthe Pipes and Drums doing some paradesthis year. That was made possible by theaddition of two pipers and a drummer. That’s progress in the right direction, butwe still need more band members. If youhave ever thought you would like to jointhe Pipes and Drums you should give ittry. No experience necessary. We had our annual picnic thanksto Jerry and Carol Jamieson for theirhospitality. The picnic was well attend bythe active band members and it was greatto see some of our veterans in attendance. The veterans in attendance were Martinand Gerri O’Loughlin (1972), Dale andCarol Biddle (1974), Gene and Betty East(1976), Bill Patrick(1983), and a surprisevisit all the way from Florida, Dan andDimple Pfuhl (1995).We also had a night out with the band atJimmie’s Ladder 11. What can I say; goodfood, good company, and a great time washad by all! It’s a Kilt! Do you know why it’s calleda Kilt?Because of all the people that havebeen kilt for calling it a skirt.Cheers until next month,

OCTOBER 2013ANTIOCH CRIER Page 15Mr. John Bull, Jr., PotentateAntioch Shriners107 East First StreetDayton Ohio, 45402Dear Illustrious Sir Bull:All of us on the Imperial Divan would like to send our appreciation to the templeleadership for participating in the most recent Imperial Session. We appreciate yourconfidence in us by electing us to the positions we now hold. We will do everything torepresent you and all Shrine members to the highest degree. As we move forward with the Imperial 2013-2014 year, there will be nothing moreimportant than securing the future of our fraternity. We have spent much of the pastfew years focusing on securing our hospitals. We will continue to provide the necessarydedication to the hospitals but now is the time we shift our focus and make our fraternitystronger than ever. This will require changes from both an Imperial and temple level. On an Imperial level, our goal is to be more visible and accessible to our temples. Ourresponsibility will be to provide the support necessary for you to move your templeforward. Our efforts will begin with visits to at least 50 temples so that support can beprovided. We are asking each temple to take seriously the need to focus their attention on thefraternity. In the remaining five and ½ months of the year, we ask that you create asmany new nobles as possible and reduce your non-paid dues members by following theguidelines set forth by Shriners International’s membership team. For what makesShriners Hospitals for Children® different is Shriners! We are dedicated to help youimprove your membership, but we need you and your leadership to also make acommitment. In closing, let me say we have many resources available to you on our MDSSystem on www.shrinersvillage.com and through our Office of MembershipDevelopment in Tampa.
