The post-1956collection of Hungarian works is more voluminous. It is filled by thepoetical works of Ferenc Fay, AndrasTamas, Marton Kerecsendi Kis,and others, the anthologies published by the Canadian HungarianAuthors' Association (Kanadai Magyar Irok Kore) under the editorshipof Janos Miska, as well as other works published by Hungarianauthors in Canada often with the help of such organizations as theCalgary-based Szechenyi Society and the Helicon Society of Toronto. 43Expressions of GratitudeDuring his long and distinguished career Professor Kirkconnell hadbeen honoured by universities, learned societies, governments and civicand ethnic organizations. He had been awarded honorary degrees byover a dozen Canadian and European universities. Decorations andother honours were bestowed on him by the Order of the IcelandicFalcon, the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Royal Society of Canada,the Polish Academy of Literature, the French Historical Institute, theHumanities Research Council of Canada and other learned societiesand civic associations.Hungarians have also paid tribute to him. Kirkconnell's verse translationsof Magyar poetry earned him homage from many poets andscholars in Hungary. 44 Following his invitation to join Hungary's PetofiSociety in 1932, another literary academy, the Kisfaludy Society, alsovoted him membership.
