Legacy Story, ContinuedAs a prelude to Dunkerley’s award, guests were treated to avideo that gave insight into Dunkerley’s true passion foraviation while displaying his flying aerobatic skills. WhenDunkerley dropped his sunglasses in the cockpit from barrelrolling the plane, he flew upside down until they landed inhis hands! Upon receiving his award, Dunkerley acknowledgedthe excellent TIM graduates who are Hawaiian employeesand also expressed appreciation for a newlyestablished$35,000 endowed scholarship in his name.Joseph Toy, President and CEO <strong>of</strong> Hospitality Advisors, LLC,was inducted into the TIM Alumni Hall <strong>of</strong> Honor as a tributeto his stellar career in Hawai‘i’s tourism industry. Toy receivedhis Master <strong>of</strong> Science degree in <strong>Travel</strong> <strong>Industry</strong> <strong>Management</strong>in 2000, and has since built his company into one <strong>of</strong>the top hospitality, tourism and real estate consulting firmsin the field.Toy publishes Hawai‘i’smonthlyhotel statistics,hosts an annualtourism trendsconference, serveson the TIM <strong>School</strong>Advisory Board,and sponsors anannual OutstandingTIMAudrey Higuchi, President <strong>of</strong> TIM International and DeanLiu induct Joseph Toy into the TIM Hall <strong>of</strong> Honor.Graduate StudentAward. He expressed appreciation for the relevant educationhe received and said that he regularly hires TIM graduates,who compete favorably with other applicants from otherexcellent programs around the country.A highlight <strong>of</strong> the evening was the Talk Story segment withTIM students Kasey Kam, Lorenn Swesey and Catherine Yasuharaasking Dunkerley and Toy questions on topics suchas Hawaiian Airlines’ vision for expanding into Asia, what itmeans to be a “destination carrier” and what strategies Hawai‘ineeds to adopt to remain competitive as a world‐classdestination.Joseph and Carla Toy with son Josh and Hospitality Advisors staff.Swesey said, “It was an honor to be a part <strong>of</strong> the Legacyevent and to represent the TIM student body. As an intern atHawaiian Airlines and as a scholarship recipient, the eventreally reinforced the strength and inter‐relatedness <strong>of</strong> thevisitor industry community here in Hawai‘i. I know my fellowstudents and I are excited about the opportunities forTIM <strong>School</strong> students once we complete our studies.”Dan Cooke was emcee for the evening and entertainmentwas provided by nā keiki o Hālau Hula Olana and Tihati Productions.Guests were treated to wine from Southern Winesand Spirits and departed with mahalo gifts <strong>of</strong> Hawaiian Hostchocolates and Maui Gold pineapples. The evening’s successtruly exemplified the essence <strong>of</strong> hospitality and generosity <strong>of</strong>the visitor industry in Hawai‘i.
