This accessory kit is the product of <strong>Triumph</strong>'s use of provenengineering, exhaustive testing, and continuous striving for superior reliability, safety and performance.Completely read all of these instructions before <strong>com</strong>mencing the installation of the accessory kit in order to be<strong>com</strong>ethoroughly familiar with the kit’s features and the installation process.These instructions should be considered a permanent part of your accessory kit, and should remain with it even if youraccessory-equipped motorcycle is subsequently sold.12Parts Supplied:1. <strong>GPS</strong> connector 1 off 2. WarningThis accessory kit is designed for use on <strong>Triumph</strong>Tiger 1050, Trophy and Trophy SE motorcycles only andshould not be fitted to any other <strong>Triumph</strong> model or toany other manufacturer’s motorcycle. Fitting thisaccessory kit to any other <strong>Triumph</strong> model or to anyother manufacturer’s motorcycle will affect theperformance, stability and handling of the motorcycle.This may affect the rider’s ability to control themotorcycle and could cause an accident.Tiger 1050 only1. Disconnect the battery, as described in the ServiceManual.2. Remove the cockpit fairing, as described in theService Manual.3. Identify the 2-way connector on the main wiringharness (located centrally above the headlight) andremove the blanking plug.WarningAlways have <strong>Triumph</strong> approved parts, accessories andconversions fitted by a trained technician of anauthorised <strong>Triumph</strong> dealer. The fitment of parts,accessories and conversions by a technician who is notof an authorised <strong>Triumph</strong> dealer may affect thehandling, stability or other aspects of the motorcycle’soperation which may result in loss of motorcycle controland an accident.21WarningAlways ensure that the newly installed wiring does notchafe against other parts of the motorcycle such that itmay be rubbed through and cause an electricalproblem. In addition, always ensure that the newlyinstalled wiring will not restrict steering movement. Bothconditions are hazardous and could give rise to adangerous riding condition resulting in a fire, loss ofmotorcycle control and an accident.WarningThroughout this operation, ensure that the motorcycle isstabilised and adequately supported to prevent risk ofinjury from the motorcycle falling.WarningA torque wrench of known accurate calibration must beused when fitting this accessory kit. Failure to tightenany of the fasteners to the correct torque specificationmay affect motorcycle performance, handling andstability. Connect the <strong>GPS</strong> connector to the 2-way connector.Trophy and Trophy SE onlyInstallation instructions for the <strong>GPS</strong> connector lead can befound in the instructions supplied with the <strong>GPS</strong> MountKits A9828009 and A9828011.All ModelsNote:• Retain the 2-way connector blanking plug foruse if the motorcycle is returned to originalcondition.Note:• The <strong>GPS</strong> connector red lead is the positive (+)connection, the <strong>GPS</strong> connector black lead is thenegative (-) connection.CautionIncorrect connection of the positive and negative leadswill result in permanent damage to the <strong>GPS</strong> unit. Alwaysconnect the <strong>GPS</strong> unit following the <strong>GPS</strong> systemmanufacturer’s instructions.5. Identify the positive and negative leads for the <strong>GPS</strong>system, following the <strong>GPS</strong> system manufacturer’sinstructions.2 of 3


6. Ensuring the <strong>GPS</strong> system positive and negative leadsare connected to the correct leads of the <strong>GPS</strong>connector, secure the connections as follows:7. Strip approximately 6 mm of insulation from theends of the <strong>GPS</strong> system’s leads.8. Using an appropriate crimping tool, secure the endof the <strong>GPS</strong> system’s leads into the pink crimpconnectors which are attached to the <strong>GPS</strong> connectorharness.9. Check the security of both connections by gentlypulling on both sides of the join. Re-crimp ifnecessary.WarningThe air from a heat gun and the heat gun itself are veryhot. Wear suitable protective gloves and do not pointthe heat gun at any part of your body as serious burnsto the skin may result.CautionWhen shrinking the pink coloured sleeves, take care notto burn any part of the wiring harness or seriousdamage will result to the cable. Excessive heat will alsocause the tubing to be<strong>com</strong>e brittle rendering it useless.10. Use a heat gun to shrink the pink coloured sleevesaround both joints. When the sleeves are fullyshrunk, allow to cool before taping over each sleevewith black electrical insulation tape. Ensure that thetaping extends past each side of the sleeves by atleast 15 mm.Tiger 1050 only11. Secure the <strong>GPS</strong> connector to the instrument supportsub-frame using the cable ties supplied, ensuringthat the steering mechanism is not hampered andthat the cable cannot be trapped or stretched.12. Refit the cockpit fairing, as described in the relevantService Manual.WarningEnsure that steering movement is not restricted byturning the handlebars through their full range ofmovement while checking that they move freely fromleft to right.13. Reconnect the battery, positive (red) lead first, asdescribed in the relevant Service Manual.WarningIf, after fitting this accessory kit, you have any doubtabout the performance of any aspect of the motorcycle,contact an authorised <strong>Triumph</strong> dealer and do not ridethe motorcycle until the authorised dealer has declaredit fit for use. Riding a motorcycle when there is anydoubt as to any aspect of the performance of themotorcycle may result in loss of control of themotorcycle leading to an accident.WarningWhen fitting and connecting the <strong>GPS</strong> connector, routethe cables to follow existing harnesses where possibleand ensure no cables can be trapped or stretched bythe steering mechanism.3 of 3
