2High risk driving behaviourOne of the most common risky driving behaviours is exceeding the speed limit.How risky this can be for you and other road users is discussed in more detail inPart 3 of the <strong>handbook</strong> see section entitled ‘Controlling your speed’, in part 3Hazard Perception.Other risky behaviours include ‘tailgating’ – driving too close to the vehicle in front.Some <strong>driver</strong>s do this because they just don’t know that they are too close whileothers do it to annoy or threaten other <strong>driver</strong>s. Either way, it is illegal and greatlyincreases the chances of a crash.Running red lights is another high risk behaviour that some <strong>driver</strong>s engage in. It mayseem to save them a few precious seconds, but also greatly increases the risk of acollision with another vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist. If you find that you are regularlydriving through red lights there is something wrong with the way you drive.
