Whitford announces Skandia ®and Skandia Xtremeroller-coating systems• Improved overall adhesion to non-uniformlyroughened surfaces.• Option of using 3, 4 or 5 coats dependingon quality level desired.• Choose good durability with goodrelease (Skandia), or...• Choose outstanding durability withoutstanding release (Skandia Xtreme).Have it your way!

The new Skandia and Skandia Extreme systemsraise the level of flexibility and performanceof roller coating lines. At the heart ofthe Skandia systems is a uniquebasecoat technology that improvesthe overall adhesion to non-uniformly 5roughened surfaces. In essence, thismeans less time and effort is requiredto prepare the surface prior to coating, 4resulting in improved efficiency.Flexibility comes with the additionof specific subsequent coating layers 3which can provide performance levelsthat cover Promotional, Opening PricePoint, Moderate, Mid- and Upper-Mid- 2Range cookware. For example:• Rather than just being used as a 1pre-treatment, the primer plus a midcoatand a traditional topcoat canmeet the performance needs of aPromotional line.• As the chart shows, additionalmid- and topcoat layers can continue to improveperformance from Promotional all the way to MidandUpper-Range performance. But the story doesn’t end here.Skandia Xtreme includes a new High-Release(HR) topcoat that provides advantages not seenbefore in roller coating. Based on the patentedtechnology of the recently introduced Eterna ®system, nonstickperformancehasbeen raisedto a newlevel. Withthe HR topcoat, the followingadvanceshave beenachieved:• Thegloss hasmore thandoubled,Number of coatsDry-Egg Test: The fried egg must releaseeasily to qualify as a “pass”.going from 10 to >20 compared to conventionalroller coatings. This, of course, means a significantincrease in eye appeal at point-of-sale.Typical options with Skandia andSkandia XtremeTopcoatPrimer Primer PrimerSkandia:Promotional/OPPTopcoatTopcoatSkandia:ModerateHRTopcoatHRTopcoatHRTopcoatMidcoat Midcoat MidcoatSkandia Xtreme:Mid- toUpper-Range• Improved release. A typical industry test formeasuring the release of a nonstick coating isthe Dry-Egg Test. In this test, a fry pan, withoutany butter or oil, is heated to 375˚F/190˚C. Anegg is broken into the pan and allowed to cookfor 2½ minutes. It is then turned over and cookedfor an additional 1½ minutes. To qualify as a“pass”, the egg must release cleanly, sliding outof the pan without any sticking, tearing or specialeffort necessary, and leaving no residue. The pan is wiped with a dry paper towel andmore eggs are tested until sticking begins. In thistest, typical roller coatings begin to experiencesticking after only three dry eggs. The SkandiaXtreme with the primer and the HR topcoat easilywent to twenty dry eggs. The combination of high gloss and eye appealto attract the consumer, and the superbnonstick performance once the pan is put intouse, assures a satisfied customer. For more information on the Skandia andSkandia Xtreme coating systems, please contactyour Whitford representative, or Whitford atsales@whitfordww.com, or via our website:whitfordww.com.Where good ideas come to the surface© Whitford 2011/WC 11/2011
