The Green Building Council promotes and supplies a global approach to
building sustainability by recognising performance in key areas of human
health and environmental friendliness. The LEED (Leadership in Energy
and Enviromental Design) is the most popular rating method in the world
for assessing the perfomance of a building throughout its entire life
cycle. It divides a building's sustainability features into seven areas that
are structured in terms of mandatory requirements and credits. For each
area it recognises and assesses performance in points by reflecting their
potential impact on the environment. The project reaches different levels
of certification according to the sum of the points from the different areas.
