Bindra andCommittee members at thePunjab Cricket AssociationIt’s good to be back in schoolafter a busy but productiveweek in India. There were threeobjectives to my visit. Firstly, Ihad the opportunity to meetwith a number of parents whoare considering sending theirchildren to Repton to Board.Secondly, I visited two schoolswhich would like to establishlinks with Repton. Theseschools, which traditionally sendtheir pupils to the UK to board, have just heard about Repton inDubai and wanted to learn moreabout us. Already we havediscussed sporting exchangesfor later in the year and stafftraining opportunities that willbenefit both the staff in Indiaand at Repton. Thirdly, I waspromoting Repton’s new cricketacademy. I was fortunate tospend some time as a guest ofMr. I.S. Bindra, President of thePunjab Cricket Association andmember and advisor of theI.C.C. This is an excitingdevelopment that we hope willsee some of India’s top youngcricketing talent joining Reptonas boarders to receive topquality coaching as well as a topquality education. Mr. Bindra isour guest at Repton on thiscoming Sunday afternoon as thisrelationship continues toblossom.Closer to home, this has been avery good and busy week in theJunior School. The Early YearsParent Meetings went very well, and we held our first Parent Repmeeting of the year thismorning with further Key Stagemeetings to follow next week.Congratulations to the Y5musicians who kept us sowonderfully entertainedyesterday evening at the Y5Concert, it was thoroughlyenjoyable and wonderful to seesuch talent.Have a good weekend and I hopeto see many of you at the CarBoot Sale on Saturday morning.Mark AtkinsFact or Opinion?“He frequently tops the'world's most attractive man'lists and has girls screamingwherever he goes ...”Much of what we read innewspapers or magazines is amix of factual information andthe opinions of the author.Often the opinions are disguisedas fact, to make the author'sargument seem more believable. For example:“Princess Diana, the wife ofPrince Charles was a verybeautiful woman and loved byeverybody in the world.”The statement in red is a fact. The statement in blue is anopinion. There is nothing wrong withmixing opinions and facttogether in an argument ... it isdone all the time. What isimportant is that the reader isable to distinguish the factfrom the opinion in order tomake a sound judgment aboutthe information they arereceiving.Year 6, currently researching‘Movers and Shakers” - famousmen and women whose lives andactions have had an impact onthe world - are learning todifferentiate between facts andopinions and are questioning, asthey should, the validity oftheir sources of information. Here are some statements thatthey have discovered anddiscussed:

Itis important that this is notviewed in the same way as onewould a fancy dress day. UAEnational dress must be wornwith respect and dignity as asymbol of affiliation with theculture of the U.A.E andcompliment to our host nation.Car Boot SaleREPTON CHARITY14th November, 20099:15am-1:00pm(Sellers can enter between8:00am-9:00am)General entry—5 AEDCar boot—50 AEDTraders—250 AEDRefreshments andEntertainment availableIn aid ofDubai Downs Syndrome SocietyFlying Mission, Botswana(Rotary Club)Asha Mission Children’s Home,DelhiDubai Round Table, Sri LankaAnte Natal ClinicBook your space now:Contact :Rachna—050 6563572Alex—050 4509282Robert— 055 9326732Cupcake SaleLast week, the children in Year2 hosted a cup cake sale forBreast Cancer Awareness andraised a whopping AED 4,906!A representative will soon becoming in to collect this money. We’d like to thank all the mums(and dads) who baked all thosedelicious, pink-iced cakes andthe children who gave up theirbreak time to sell them.Lucy PederickYear 2Repton School P.O.
