Coordinate with the University of Iowa Facilities ManagementEnvironmental Compliance Department.2. Materialsa. Refer to the UIHC Emergency Generator Specifications in Appendix H.b. Generators shall be diesel, 277/480 volt, 3 phase, 4 wire with a remote multi-fanradiator, critical silencer, engine control panel, and remote annunciator. Approvedmanufacturers shall be coordinated with Maintenance and Engineering for eachproject.c. Generator distribution switchboards shall have a main-tie-main configuration forredundant connection to other generator distribution switchboards. Solid statemetering and controls shall be provided in a separate metering section.d. Automatic transfer switches shall be open transition, bypass-isolation type, ASCO7000-7A series. Approved manufacturers shall be ASCO and Zenith.e. Non-automatic transfer switches shall be open transition type, ASCO 7000-7N series.Approved manufacturers shall be ASCO and Zenith.3. Installationa. Each branch of the emergency power system shall be installed in raceway separatefrom the other branches, normal power, and any other system wiring.b. Generators and main emergency distribution equipment shall be installed in roomsseparate from other equipment.c. Testing shall be in compliance with the UIHC Emergency Generator Specificationsand shall include both factory and on-site testing.4.18 Division 27 – Communications27 05 00 Common Work Results for Communications1. This section shall cover the following communications systems used at UIHC:telecommunications (voice/data), nurse call, music/overhead paging, and CATVUIHCTelecommunications Design Reference Manual for complete details.2. The general construction project shall be responsible for providing the raceway rough-in(boxes, conduit, cable tray, etc.) for the system components and 120 volt connections forthe equipment power. UIHC Communications Technology Services (CTS) will purchasethe system components, install the system cabling, install the components, test thesystem, and provide instruction of its operation to the User group. CTS may use anoutside vendor for this but this vendor will be working directly for CTS and not throughthe general construction contract. CTS vendors must be certified and have at least oneRCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) on staff. Contact owner forpre-certification requirements.3. CTS (319-356-3522) shall be consulted during the early schematic design stage fordesign of these systems and identification of the Telecommunication Room (TR)locations/requirements.82
Rev. 9 December 15, 2012Rev. 9 December 15, 20124. Dedicated TRs shall be utilized for all new and remodeling projects. Because maximumcable lengths are 295 ft, TRs shall be as close as possible to the center of and on the samefloor as the area served. Ensure that the TR is accessible from a hallway or other commonarea. TRs in multi-floor buildings shall be stacked vertically, whenever possible. Thereshall be a minimum of one TR per 10,000 sq. ft. of office, clinic, and inpatient unitserved. If the area served by a TR is larger than 10,000 sq. ft., the TR will be increased insize as necessary.Although the general construction project will be only providing thepathways and rough-in for the system components, the design professional shall preparedevice layout plans for the use of CTS, their vendors, Capital Management, and theUIHC User group. These same plans may also be used as part of the general constructionbidding documents to provide the rough-in and pathways. The Design Professional shalluse the UIHC standard symbols for these systems to maintain consistency of drawingsfrom different design professionals for similar systems.5. The Design Professional shall attend the system design meetings throughout all stages ofthe project. CTS will lead the discussion of the system features, components, componentlocations, etc. with the User groups. The Design Professional shall prepare the drawingsfor the component and equipment locations.6. The general construction projects shall provide and install all communications roomconstruction (walls, doors, flooring, plywood backboards, grounding, 120 volt power,lighting, HVAC, etc.). Rooms shall be “stacked” floor to floor for future considerations.7. All raceway penetrations through fire/smoke walls shall be firestopped. At a minimum,conduit sleeves shall extend through the walls with removable firestop putty installed inthe sleeve after the installation of cables. As an alternate, manufactured sleeves withintegral intumescent material such as EZ Path by Specified Technologies, shall beinstalled in the walls with the cable tray stopping on either side of the wall. This shall becoordinated for each project with CTS.8. A complete raceway system shall be designed so all cabling is in conduit or cable tray.27 11 00 Communications Equipment Room Fittings1. Communication Closet Design Criteria:a. General:i. See UIHC Telecommunications Design Reference Manual for detail of a typicalTR. Coordinate placement of items within the closet with CTS.ii. Piping, ductwork and distribution of building power shall not be located in or passthrough the communication closet.iii. All communication closets shall be provided with Level 3 door security. Refer toDivision 28 for details.iv. Doors shall be fully opening (180 degrees) and at least 40-42 inches wide.v. Flooring shall be vinyl tile; Armstrong 51899 white.vi. Install cage around sprinkler heads in room.vii. Install a sprinkler zone valve in room.83
