Coordinate with the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong> Facilities ManagementEnvironmental Compliance Department.2. Materialsa. Refer to the UIHC Emergency Generator Specifications in Appendix H.b. Generators shall be diesel, 277/480 volt, 3 phase, 4 wire with a remote multi-fanradiator, critical silencer, engine control panel, <strong>and</strong> remote annunciator. Approvedmanufacturers shall be coordinated with Maintenance <strong>and</strong> Engineering for eachproject.c. Generator distribution switchboards shall have a main-tie-main configuration forredundant connection to other generator distribution switchboards. Solid statemetering <strong>and</strong> controls shall be provided in a separate metering section.d. Automatic transfer switches shall be open transition, bypass-isolation type, ASCO7000-7A series. Approved manufacturers shall be ASCO <strong>and</strong> Zenith.e. Non-automatic transfer switches shall be open transition type, ASCO 7000-7N series.Approved manufacturers shall be ASCO <strong>and</strong> Zenith.3. Installationa. Each branch <strong>of</strong> the emergency power system shall be installed in raceway separatefrom the other branches, normal power, <strong>and</strong> any other system wiring.b. Generators <strong>and</strong> main emergency distribution equipment shall be installed in roomsseparate from other equipment.c. Testing shall be in compliance with the UIHC Emergency Generator Specifications<strong>and</strong> shall include both factory <strong>and</strong> on-site testing.4.18 Division 27 – Communications27 05 00 Common Work Results for Communications1. This section shall cover the following communications systems used at UIHC:telecommunications (voice/data), nurse call, music/overhead paging, <strong>and</strong> CATVUIHCTelecommunications Design Reference Manual for complete details.2. The general construction project shall be responsible for providing the raceway rough-in(boxes, conduit, cable tray, etc.) for the system components <strong>and</strong> 120 volt connections forthe equipment power. UIHC Communications Technology Services (CTS) will purchasethe system components, install the system cabling, install the components, test thesystem, <strong>and</strong> provide instruction <strong>of</strong> its operation to the User group. CTS may use anoutside vendor for this but this vendor will be working directly for CTS <strong>and</strong> not throughthe general construction contract. CTS vendors must be certified <strong>and</strong> have at least oneRCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) on staff. Contact owner forpre-certification requirements.3. CTS (319-356-3522) shall be consulted during the early schematic design stage fordesign <strong>of</strong> these systems <strong>and</strong> identification <strong>of</strong> the Telecommunication Room (TR)locations/requirements.82
