Motors Above One (1) Horsepower: For fuse rating 600 amperes or less, dual elementtime delay, Type FRN(S)-R, with interrupting rating <strong>of</strong> 200,000 amperes RMS. Sizefuses per Article 430 <strong>of</strong> the NEC.26 28 16 Enclosed Switches <strong>and</strong> Circuit Breakers1. Circuit Breakers:a. Lighting <strong>and</strong> Appliance Panelboards: Circuit breakers shall be plug-on type toggleaction with quick-make, quick-break mechanism, with visi-trip. Single pole 15 <strong>and</strong>20 ampere circuit breakers shall be UL listed as switching breakers at 120/277 voltAC <strong>and</strong> carry the SWD marking. T<strong>and</strong>em or “piggyback” breakers providing twocircuits from one pole space are prohibited.b. Distribution Panelboards or Switchboards: Circuit breakers shall have overcenter,trip-free toggle-type operating mechanisms with quick-make, quick-break action <strong>and</strong>positive h<strong>and</strong>le indication. Each circuit breaker shall have a permanent trip unitcontaining individual thermal <strong>and</strong> magnetic trip elements in each pole. Operatingh<strong>and</strong>les shall assume a center position when tripped. Breakers rated 250 amps <strong>and</strong>above shall be solid state type, <strong>and</strong> breakers rated below 250 amps shall be thermalmagnetic.c. All circuit breakers shall be labeled with nameplates or as part <strong>of</strong> a typewritten paneldirectory. Each panelboard directory shall be typewritten to identify the load fed byeach circuit. Spare breakers <strong>and</strong> circuits to be left blank with circuit breaker in <strong>of</strong>fposition.2. Disconnect Switches:a. All disconnect switches shall be heavy duty type <strong>and</strong> shall be fused.b. Disconnect switches for fractional horsepower motors, ½ horsepower <strong>and</strong> smaller,<strong>and</strong> less than 125 volts shall be Bussman SSY type or Owner approved equal.c. Disconnect switches for fractional horsepower motors larger than ½ horsepower, forintegral horsepower motors, <strong>and</strong> for equipment <strong>of</strong> similar capacity shall break allungrounded conductors <strong>and</strong> shall be quick-make, quick-break with interlockingcovers. Units shall be capable <strong>of</strong> being locked in the <strong>of</strong>f position.d. Disconnect switches installed indoors shall have NEMA 1 enclosures. Disconnectswitches installed outdoors or in wet locations shall have raintight NEMA 3Renclosures, however, NEMA 4X stainless steel type shall be considered for eachproject based on the environment.26 41 00 Facility Lightning Protection1. Generala. Lightning protection systems shall conform to NFPA 780 <strong>and</strong> UL 96A for LightningProtection.b. The system shall be installed by, or under the direct supervision <strong>of</strong> a firm activelyengaged in the installation <strong>of</strong> UL approved Master Labeled Lightning Protectionsystems. The firm shall be listed by UL.75
