Roof system is classified by Underwriters Laboratories to meet therequirements of Class "A" Fire Resistance.b. Roofing system is classified by Factory Mutual to meet the requirements ofFRMRC Windstorm Resistance Classification 1-90 minimum.3. Materials and PropertiesB. Related Materialsa. Membrane shall be a reinforced styrene-butadiene - styrene polymer meetingthe minimum requirements of CGSB 37-GP-56M.b. Membrane sheet shall be granulated with white mineral aggregate. Granuleembedment loss shall be less than two grams per square foot.c. Base ply shall be a modified asphalt base sheet and compatible with thesurface membrane sheet.1. Asphalt primer: Shall meet requirements of ASTM D 41. Primer shall be asrecommended by the membrane manufacturer.2. Flashing membrane: Shall be modified bituminous material as recommended andfurnished by the membrane manufacturer.3. Roof insulation: Reference Section 07220 - Roof and Deck Insulation forrequirements.4. Roof Insulation Fasteners: Reference Section 07220 - Roof and Deck Insulation forrequirements.5. Roof cement: Shall meet requirements of ASTM D 4586 (asbestos-free) and berecommended by the membrane manufacturer.6. Loose roofing granules: Shall meet requirements of ASTM D 451 and berecommended by the membrane manufacturer. Color shall match color of granulatedmembrane sheet. Size shall match size of granules on the membrane.7. Nails and Fasteners: Non-ferrous metal or galvanized steel, except that hard coppernails shall be used with copper; aluminum or stainless steel nails shall be used withaluminum; and stainless steel nails shall be used with stainless steel. Fasteners shallbe self-clinching type or penetrating type as recommended by the manufacturer of thedeck material. Nails and fasteners shall be flush-driven through flat metal discs of notless than 1-inch diameter. Wood Nailers: Roofing nails for wood nailers shall be 11 gauge, barbed, zinc-coatednails with 7/16 to 5/8-inch diameter heads. Nails shall be long enough to penetrateinto the wood nailers at least 5/8 inch.9. Metal Discs: Flat discs or caps of zinc-coated sheet metal not lighter than 28 gaugeand not less than 1-inch in diameter. Discs shall be formed to prevent dishing. Bell orcup-shaped caps are not acceptable.10. Walk-way pads: As recommended and furnished by the membrane manufacturer.11. Elastomeric Coating: As recommended and furnished by the membranemanufacturer.PART 3EXECUTION3.01 PRE-INSTALLATION CONFERENCEA. Prior to the start of roofing work, a meeting will be held at the job site for the purpose ofreviewing materials, methods and procedures to facilitate proper and timely construction ofthe roofing system. Reference Section 01310 - Project Management and Coordination forrequirements.3.02 REFERENCEA. The current product specification guide published by the membrane manufacturer shall beconsidered part of this specification and shall be referred to for more specific applicationprocedures regarding roofing insulation, membrane and base flashing. When a differencebetween this specification and the manufacturer's product specification guide is encountered,the provision which is more stringent shall govern.3.03 INSPECTION OF SURFACESA. Examine surfaces for adequate anchorage, foreign materials, moisture, and other conditionswhich would adversely affect the roofing application and performance.B. The roofing contractor shall be responsible for preparing adequate surfaces to receiveinsulation, roofing, and flashing.3.04 APPLICATION - GENERALA. Install in accordance with the accepted roofing manufacturer's written specifications andrecommended details now on file in the Architect/Engineer's office.B. Protect building wall area with tarpaulins or other durable materials at staging areas.C. Roof surfaces shall be thoroughly dry before application of roofing.D. Inspection of the roofing shall be made by a responsible representative of the roofingmanufacturer during application and after completion.
