Current Trends in Biotechnology and PharmacyVol. 5 (1) 1043-1053 January 2011. ISSN 0973-8916 (Print), 2230-7303 (Online)1049Table 2. Antibiotic sensitivity of Streptomyces isolates. No of isolatesas Streptomyces rouchi with the ID score 0.99,0.98, 0.98, isolate MS03 and P9N were identifiedas Streptomyces exfloliatus whereas isolates NoMS41, MS14, D9, M1, M11, M12, M8, M9, M7were identified as Streptomyces filipinensis,Streptomyces atroolivaceus, Streptomyceshalstedii, Streptomyces cyaneus, Streptomycesviolaceus, Streptomyces oliovaceoviridis,Streptomyces lydicus, Streptomycesphaeochromogenes, Streptomyceschromofuscus with the ID score 0.99, 0.99, 0.99,1.0, 0.99, 0.99, 0.99, 1.0, 0.99, 1.0 respectively.DiscussionFrom the above study, it is concluded thatall the isolates identified having antimicrobialactivity belongs to Streptomyces group and thisconfirms the report that most of the actinomycetesisolated from the soil that produce antibiotics arefrom the genus Streptomyces (19). genusStreptomyces were found to produce more then1, 00,000 bioactive compounds that are ofbiological interest (20). Out of thousands ofmicrobial metabolites produced fromactinomycetes about 150-160 (0.2-0.3%)Isolation and Characterization of Streptomyces sp.
