She said, “The country hasdone a good job in the health sector but morework is required. We have to achieve the goal <strong>of</strong>‘health for everyone’ <strong>and</strong> focus more on ruralarea, women, children <strong>and</strong> other weaker sections<strong>of</strong> the society by providing them easy <strong>and</strong> cheaphealth facility.” She added that we have over 54crore young population <strong>and</strong> by giving them qualityeducation <strong>and</strong> teaching them values we can usethis youth power towards the development <strong>of</strong> thecountry.India Aims to raise Enrolment in HigherEducation - PresidentPresident Pratibha Patil at the sixthconvocation <strong>of</strong> the Mizoram University said Indiaintended to increase enrolment in higher educationfrom the present 14 million to about 40 million.Patil said “Higher education has been accordedpriority in our country. It is our aim to increasegross enrolment ratio in higher education to 30percent by the year 2020, which means almosttripling the enrolment from the present 14 millionto about 40 million”. She said “Universities <strong>of</strong> thecountry, existing <strong>and</strong> the new ones, will beresponsible for achieving this target”. Thepresident said that “Periodic short-term coursesfor the local community on <strong>issue</strong>s relevant to themlike floriculture, mushroom cultivation <strong>and</strong>medicinal plants can be organized where studentsalso would participate.” Bamboo flowering <strong>and</strong>“Jhum” (‘slash <strong>and</strong> burn’ method) cultivation,which had caused setbacks to agriculture in thestate, need to be studied in-depth, with the aim todeal with them on a scientific basis.
