There areseven short-term and three long-term multi-hazard action items described below.Short-Term Activity- Multi-<strong>Hazard</strong> #l:Action Item: Integrate the goals and action items from the City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Glendale</strong> Local Natural<strong>Hazard</strong> <strong>Mitigation</strong> Plan into existing regulatory documents and programs, where appropriate.Ideas for Implementation:• Continue to adopt and enforce the most recent Building and Fire Codes, with localamendments that reflect current standards for structural and engineering methods toreduce the effects <strong>of</strong> natural hazards.• Require geotechical reviews that address liquefaction, slope stability and seismicvulnerability <strong>of</strong> proposed new structures and re-development projects.• Continue to review all plans for new construction and re-development projects toidentify structural or fire-code deficiencies that need to be addressed and mitigated foras condition <strong>of</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> the project.• Prohibit any additions to or reconstruction <strong>of</strong> critical facilities damaged by a naturalhazard, unless the facility is re-located to a safer area, or it can be demonstrated thatthe proposed project and any occupants can be protected from future, recurrentdamage by implementing mitigation measures not present in the original, damagedstructure.Ideas for Future Implementation:• Use the <strong>Mitigation</strong> Plan to help institutionalize the guidelines in the City's General Planto encourage sustainable development in all new construction and developmentprojects with emphasis on mitigation or hazard reduction <strong>of</strong> those hazards known tohave the potential to impact the city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Glendale</strong>.2006 PAGE 4 - 5
