For more information on wildfire hazard assessment refer tohttp://www.firewise.org.Unlike an earthquake, which has the potential to impact the entire region, wildfires at theurban/wildland interface are often contained thanks to the heroic efforts of the local firedepartments, in some cases with help from other regional, State, and Federal agencies. However, as discussed above, there are now some computer models available (FARSITE,BEHAVEPlus, and FlamMap) that, given reasonable inputs regarding slope, wind, fuelavailability, moisture conditions, and other parameters, can be used to forecast the area thatwould be impacted. Once the impacted area is determined, a risk assessment that looks at thepopulation and property within that area can be conducted, from which loss estimates can becalculated.2006 PAGE 7 - 12
