Natural Hazards Mitigation PlanCity of Glendale, CaliforniaSection 6 – Earthquakesand emergency operations facilities. The essential facility module in HAZUS determines theexpected loss of functionality for these facilities. The damage probabilities for essential facilities aredetermined on a site-specific basis (i.e., at each facility). Economic losses associated with thesefacilities are computed as part of the analysis of the general building stock. Data required for theanalysis include occupancy classes (current building use) and building structural type, or acombination of essential facilities building type, design level and construction quality factor. Highpotential loss facilities include dams, levees, military installations, nuclear power plants andhazardous material sites.HAZUS divides the lifeline inventory into two systems: transportation and utility lifelines. Thetransportation system includes seven components: highways, railways, light rail, bus, ports, ferry andairports. The utility lifelines include potable water, wastewater, natural gas, crude and refined oil, electric power and communications. If site-specific lifeline utility data are not provided for theseanalyses, HAZUS performs a statistical calculation based on the population served.General Building Stock Type and Classification: HAZUS provides damage data for buildingsbased on these structural types:• Concrete• Mobile Home• Precast Concrete• Reinforced Masonry BearingWalls• Steel• Unreinforced Masonry BearingWalls• Wood Frameand based on these occupancy (usage) classifications:• Residential• Commercial• Industrial• Agriculture• Religion• Government and• Education2006 PAGE 6 - 37
