The buildinghas an environmental focus, including solarpanels and sedum grass roofs.In the region of 500 students study atthe College’s dedicated A-Level Centre,which has recently undergone a numberof improvements including a dedicatedA-Level break-out room with computers forindependent study and social area, and newMAC suits for Media Studies.Specialist facilities at Park Lane Campusavailable for A-Level students include:• 6 Science Labs• A Film Studio and Film & Media EditingSuites.• A Dark room & Photographic Studio• Refurbished Learning Resource Centre(LRC) and Computer Workstations• Students’ Union• A Fitness Centre with Gym Equipment• Refectory CanteenCASE STUDIESA2 Film Studies students Peter, Amber, Chris& Shaun entered an A2 Film, ‘Light’ whichwon the award for ‘Best FE Drama’, andthen went on to win the prestigious overall‘Best of Festival’ Award. In winning the latter,they were up against relatively large-scaleproductions by University entrants.AS Film Students, Jengira & Oksana wonthe Award for ‘Best FE Music Video’ witha modern vampire story set to MarilynManson’s version of ‘Sweet Dreams’. Indoing so, they saw off competition from arange of sixth forms and colleges, includingmany entries from Full Time BTEC MediaProduction studentsENRICHMENTEnrichment activities include the A-Level EssayCompetition, which gives students the abilityto develop their own ideas and understandingof the world, at the same time as showingemployers and universities that they are wellrounded learners with interests outside oftheir A-Levels.Students benefit form revision workshops inall subjects in the lead up to exams.38 Leeds City College | Further Education Directory 2013-14
