Olympic Success: The <strong>College</strong> washeavily involved with the London 2012Olympic Games, with students taking partin everything from carrying the Olympictorch, baking cakes for celebration events in<strong>Leeds</strong>, dancing to crowds on the relay route,and helping out as torch ambassadors.Team GB’s Nicola Adams (who becamethe first female boxer to win an Olympicgold medal in the Women’s Fly Final) was aformer student of <strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> on theNational Diploma in Software Development.<strong>College</strong> Opens New Dining Destination:<strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> has joined up with TheFlannels group to open a restaurant in aprestigious city centre location. The FoodAcademy, on the third floor of Flannels,<strong>Leeds</strong>, showcases the <strong>College</strong>’s mosttalented students. On completing training,students who excel have the opportunity tosecure an apprenticeship at the restaurant,providing invaluable experience in aprofessional, high quality environment.Recently, the students have worked withMichelin-starred chef, Steve Smith.Sauce of Inspiration: The man behind ReggaeReggae Sauce, Levi Roots, shared the story ofhis rise to sauce super stardom with studentsat <strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Levi visited the <strong>College</strong>’sThomas Danby Campus to chat to Hospitality& Catering and Business students about settingup and succeeding in business. His appearanceon the BBC’s Dragons’ Den brought both Leviand his Reggae Reggae Sauce to the public’sattention, with his sauce now stocked by majorretailers and the Levi Roots brand extendedacross a range of other products.Once in a Lifetime Experience: Studentsand staff from <strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> receivedthe opportunity of a lifetime when they weregranted a private audience with His Holinessthe Dalai Lama during his visit to the city in2012. The Tibetan spiritual leader and NobelPeace Prize Laureate was in <strong>Leeds</strong> as the keynotespeaker at the Yorkshire International BusinessConvention (YIBC) <strong>Leeds</strong> 2012.
