Vacuum Breaker<strong>Apricus</strong> <strong>Solar</strong> Collector <strong>Installation</strong> & <strong>Operation</strong> Manual - USAa) A vacuum breaker may need to be installed at the highest point of the cold water inlet to the storage tankto prevent damage to the tank in case of negative system pressure. Check with your local authorities to seeif this is a requirement.b) The diagram below is an excerpt from the Watts Vacuum Breaker product guide. It shows the correctlocation for the vacuum breaker. For other br<strong>and</strong>s or models refer to the manufacturers installationsinstructions.3.30. Sediment Buildup (Hard <strong>Water</strong> / Limescale)a) If in areas prone to limescale formation the storage tank should be flushed by the home owner orAuthorized Person as outlined in the tank manufacturer’s operation manual. This should be completed asoften as once every 6 month in areas with particularly hard water, <strong>and</strong> annual in most areas.b) If installed in a direct flow system or closed loop using a brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE) an inlinestrainer should be fitted before the pump to catch any sediment <strong>and</strong> allow periodic clean out.3.31. Supporting Pipe <strong>and</strong> <strong>System</strong> Componentsa) Pipe hangers use to support system components should be able to support the components <strong>and</strong> maintainthe proper pitch.
