Our 30 state qualifiers were: AbrilMaranon, Annie Yang, Emily Ray, Eszter Vigh, Zoe Boiarsky, Talia Berlin, Nathan Freeman, FreddyHaberecht, Logan Hill, Josh Rogers, Claire Panella, Derryth Dalrymple, Allie MacMahon, MaddisonSchink, Laina Heacock, Thayer McCollum, Natalie Heacock, Owen Lockwood, Libby Kern, BhaavikaGaddamm, Sam Potraschke, Margaux Brewer, Joe DeCicco, Ahmad Esmat, Sarah Way, ChristopherTomaschow, Larry Chen, Joshua Pierman, Anna Cowart, and Katie Hinz. Our top 5 finishers wereEszter Vigh and Annie Yang (1 st & 4 th ), Larry Chen and Allie McMahon (1 st ), Emily Rayand Abril Maranon (2 nd ), Thayer McCollum and Maddison Schink (2 nd ), Josh Rogersand Thayer McCollum (2 nd ), Maddison Schink and Joshua Pierman (2 nd ), Allie McMahonand Larry Chen (3 rd ), Chris Tomaschow and Thayer McCollum (3 rd ), Freddie Haberechtand Owen Lockwood (3 rd & 4 th ), Laina Heacock and Natalie Heacock (4 th ),Derryth Dalrymple, Bhaavika Gaddamm, and Katie Hinz (5 th ), and Emily Ray and Claire Panella (5 th ).Thanks to teachers Sarah Freemyer, Jenna Ellingson, Ben Mayer, Bri Chittenden, and MichaelCyphers for making our Science O program possible, and all of our p<strong>are</strong>nt helpers!2) The National Junior Honor Society met last week to discuss their upcoming projects: TeacherBreakfast Planning Team (May 2 at 6:30am), a donation drive for Bike to School Week (now untilMay 6), and the Spring Creek Talent Sh<strong>are</strong> (May 16). NJHS members <strong>are</strong> encouraged to sign up forat least one of these events, with all members being asked to bring an item to sh<strong>are</strong> at theTeacher Appreciation Breakfast on May 2. <strong>Students</strong> who volunteer for these events will get moreinformation at subsequent meetings. The number of winners varied foreach grade because of the difference in the number of poems submitted. 4) Congratulations to the cast of Alice in Wonderland under the direction of vocal music teacherClaire Chronopoulos and accompanist Cassie Porter for three great performances over the pastweek!5) 8 th Graders going to FCHS next year: FCHS welcomes our 8 th grade Lambkin p<strong>are</strong>nts to theirannual 8 th Grade Transition Night <strong>April</strong> 25 th 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm in the FCHS McNeal Auditorium.Ashley Kasprzak from Team Fort Collins will present Transitions: A Time of Change, Challenge, andOpportunity. The presentation will go over what p<strong>are</strong>nts should know when it comes totransitional periods with their student. 8 th grade p<strong>are</strong>nts also should sign up for the Fort CollinsHigh School p<strong>are</strong>nt email list so you can start receiving their important emails and newsletters!Questions contact Tanya Vigil FCHS Counseling Dept. Chair (488-8103, or tvigil@psdschools.org).6) Congratulations to 8 th grader Lupita Fragoso, our recipient of the PHS Ubuntu (“Unity” in Africandialect) scholarship, which is awarded to an 8 th grader from each PHS feeder middle schoolencouraging them to maintain good academic standing throughout their 4 years at PHSand attend a college of their choice. Provided Lupita gets involved in an extracurricularactivity each of her 4 years at PHS, maintains a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA, and doesnot have any discipline referrals during her high school tenure she will receive thescholarship as a senior. Way to go Lupita!7) The <strong>Lesher</strong> 8 th grade volleyball team had a great end to the season at the District VolleyballChampionship tournament on Saturday, <strong>April</strong> 13 th at FRHS. Our girls entered the tourney as the#6 seed out of 9 teams, and then went 4-2 on the day beating CLPM, #3 Webber, #4 Boltz, andWellington (losing only to eventual undefeated champion Preston and Blevins) to win theconsolation championship! Way to finish strong ladies- Anabelle Benitez, Kara Bowman, AddieBrown, Chloe Brown, Izzy Burke, Bella Cordova, Delena Groen, Yahaira Hernandez, KatieHinz, Audra Koopman, Akadia Kosakowsi, Clara Manning, Ann Marie Roberts, MaddisonSchoen, Zoie Smith, AnnaLee Black (manager), and Anja Meisel, (manager). Thanks CoachBergmann and Coach Koopman!8) The <strong>Lesher</strong> Odyssey of the Mind (OM) Team placed 5 th at the Colorado State OM Tournamentahead of our OM rival Boltz on Saturday, <strong>April</strong> 13 th at FCHS in Problem 5 called “It's how youlook at it;” having placed 3 rd the previous week at the Poudre Regional Tournament <strong>April</strong> 6 th .Congratulations on your teamwork and doing so well <strong>this</strong> year Eryn Byrn, Anna Campbell, ChaliceMichael, Oscar Valdez, Alex Claiborne, Jack Herrera, and Madison Jaramillo. Thank you to ourp<strong>are</strong>nt OM coaches Sue Lorimor and Deirdre Sullivan for making OM available to our students!9) Attention Biking Vikings... 5 th Annual <strong>Lesher</strong> Bike Week will be Monday, 5/6 thru Friday 5/10beginning with a pep rally on Monday, continuing with a Bike-to-School Day breakfast onWednesday, and culminating in the first ever Tour de Skinny (it’s all about wellness andsustainability) on Friday from 5 – 7:30pm. There will be bike competitions, giveaways, and games,such as, an adventure race, bike polo, tricycle races, and more. Oil your chains and pump thosetires! It’s going to be awesome! 15) Congratulations to 8 th grader Karson Maitland who was nominated by the 8 th grade teachers as<strong>Lesher</strong>’s Masonic Award winner for 2012-13. Karson will be recognized on Tuesday, <strong>April</strong> 30 th atthe Fort Collins Masonic Lodge from 7 – 8:30pm and will be accompanied by physical educationteacher Jo Dixon and asst. principal Deon Davis.16) Congratulations to <strong>Lesher</strong> 6 th graders Mary Maddocks, Monica Quezada, Claire Silk, and SarahWay who were nominated by our 6 th grade teachers and attended HP’s Technology Camp for 6 thGrade Girls all day on Friday, <strong>April</strong> 12 th .
