Yattendon itself has many notably properties including a partly moated Manor <strong>House</strong>which belonged to the Norreys family who were reputed to have entertained Henry VIII and his QueenKatherine of Aragon with her lady in waiting Anne Boleyn. Accordingly to legend the young HenryNorreys picked up a handkerchief around Boleyn setting in motion the sad events which led to her deathand his execution as one of her lovers. <strong>The</strong> Church of St Peter and St Paul dates from approximately1450 on an earlier foundation and contains a Rood screen made by local carvers. Situated in the squarein the centre of village is the Royal Oak Inn a notable small hotel and restaurant. <strong>The</strong> countrysidesurrounding Yattendon is particularly scenic with undulating fields and woodland. <strong>The</strong> villagesurprisingly has a good range of local shops and amenities including a Post Office General Stores, a wellpatronised butchers, hairdresser, highly regarded primary school and a village hall with tennis courts.Yattendon is very conveniently situated for ease of access to either Reading or Newbury and the M4 fromJunctions 12 or 13. Follow this road up the hill and out of thevillage and continue for a further 2½ miles where on reaching the bottom of a hill turn right at thejunction and follow the road through the woods signposted for Yattendon.
